South Korean car maker Kia is getting all braced up to start its operations in India. As already known, thanks to innumerable reports, Kia India’s first product will be a brand new SUV model based on the Kia SP Concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The production version of the Kia SP Concept is slated to launch in the country in around August-September period this year. As per the recent reports, Kia is also planning to launch a sportier version of the same SUV, while will likely debut sometime in 2020.
This upcoming sportier version of the Kia SP based SUV will mark itself apart from its standard counterpart with a sporty body kit, more premium and interesting interior trims when it comes to visual appeal. However, the real charm of it will be under its skin, in the form of a sportier engine. This engine is supposed to be a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol mill that is capable of churning out a max power output of 140 hp. This engine would be getting paired with a 7 speed dual clutch transmission gearbox along with paddleshifters. The Kia is also likely to tweak the suspension setup of this model too in order to support the engine to offer more fun to drive experience along with a smoother ride.
Moreover, this same the 140 hp, 1.4 litre petrol unit is also expected to power many other Kia models in the Indian car market in the future. It is said that Kia is studying the feasibility of launching the premium KiaCeed hatchback model in the car market ofIndia. And if the Ceed really makes it to India, it might be one of the models that would get powered by this petrol engine.
Speaking of the standard lineup of the upcoming Kia SP Concept based SUV, it will launch in India in both petrol and diesel versions. The petrol version of the SUV will get equipped with a 1.5 litre petrol mill that will be good to generate a max power output of 115 hp. On the other hand, the diesel version of the SUV will come packed with a 1.5 litre oil burner. However, it is said that these enginecould come in the current BS-IV compliant version rather than adhere to the upcoming BS-VI norms that’ll come into effect in 2020. Both the engines will get manual and automatic transmission gearbox options. The SUV is also expected to come with paddleshifters as part of its standard package for the higher automatic trim models.
The new upcoming Kia SP Concept based SUV’s standard lineup will come with competitive pricing, considering it is a premium SUV. Kia has already revealed that the new SUV will have a price range of Rs. 10 to Rs.16 lakhs lakhs slab. Being a premium quality vehicle, the SP Concept based new SUV is likely to boast of an extensive list of interesting features along with tons of standard features to impress the modern Indian SUV buyers.
