Mahindra XUV300 W4 Variant
W4 is the base variant of the Mahindra XUV300, and it is priced at Rs 7.95 lakh for the petrol version and at Rs 8.7 lakh for the diesel. It has received the highest 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. This variant has all the basic safety features along with features like impact-sensing auto-door unlock, day/night IRVM, 4 disc brakes and ISOFIX.

You can change the heaviness of the steering wheel with Steering Modes, while the Tyre Position Display lets you see the parked car’s tyre direction on the MID.
Although W4 is XUV300’s base variant, it doesn’t actually look stripped from the outside, as it gets body coloured bumpers, door handles and ORVMs. However, this variant gets black plastic covering in the place where the DRLs and fog lamps should be.

As per our internal data, the W6 variant’s added features do not justify its price jump of Rs 1 lakh over the W4 variant. Thus, we do not recommend this variant.
If you wish to go for a basic variant of the XUV300, then the best option is the base W4 variant. You can retrofit the W4 with wheel covers, while the petrol W4 buyers would have to retrofit an audio system as well. However, we suggest you go for the W4 variant only if you are eyeing a lower variant of the XUV300 and don’t wish to stretch your budget, otherwise we recommend considering the W8 variant - both in the case of petrol and diesel.

The W6 variant with the diesel engine gets an AMT option as well. In the XUV300 AMT range, the W6 is the base variant, and it covers all must-have features along with a few good-to-have features. The AMT variants of the XUV300 come with electronic stability control as well. However, instead of going for the W6 AMT variant, we recommend that you consider buying the W8 AMT variant as it offers better value.
Mahindra XUV300 W8 Variant
The XUV300 W8 Petrol variant is around Rs 92,000 more expensive than the W6 petrol, while the W8 Diesel is Rs 1.10 lakh costlier than the W6 diesel.

According to our internal data, the additional features of the W8 variant have a greater perceived value than its asking price. Thus, we recommend the W8 variant over the W6. Even if you consider the price difference between the base W4 and the W8 variant, the W8’s additional features are worth the extra premium, and the variant offers a value-for-money proposition. Since this variant covers all the basic features as well as a number of modern-day features, it is a sensible well-rounded package.

Shelling out Rs 1 lakh extra for the additional features of the W8(O) is not really required, although the perceived value of the added features of is around 1.5 lakh. The W8(O)’s additional features are mostly feel-good and not must-haves.
Thus, upgrading to the W8(O) over the W8 depends completely on your choice and budget - and this is true for all the 3 powertrain options.
Which Variant Of The 2020 Mahindra XUV300 Should You Buy?
If you are looking to buy the manual transmission version of the Mahindra XUV300, either with the petrol or diesel engine, then our top recommended variant is the W8. The W8 variant’s prices have reduced, and it is a sensible upgrade over both the lower variants. It covers all the must-have features and offers some good-to-have features as well.
Having said that, the best value-for-money variant of the XUV300 is the top W8(O). Thus, if you can stretch your budget for this top variant, then definitely go for it for its additional safety and feel-good features.
If you are considering only the base W4 and the W6 variants of the XUV300, then we suggest that you settle for the base W4 variant and then go for an audio system and wheel covers from the aftermarket. This is because the W6’s additional features do not justify its asking price.
