What Are The Engine Specifications of Mahindra XUV300?

The XUV300 comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that has the capability to generate 110PS of maximum power and 200Nm of peak torque. Compared to the non-turbo charged B2-segment SUVs, the XUV300’s power:weight ratio is less than the EcoSport and Brezza, but its torque:weight ratio is best in the segment, as expected. Among the non turbo cars -- except the EcoSport and WR-V, all the other cars have better claimed fuel efficiency than the XUV300.

The following table offers you a look at the specifications of the 1.2L turbo petrol engine of the 2021 Mahindra XUV300 and its comparison with its non-turbo charged rivals:

Among the turbo-charged petrol SUVs in this segment, the XUV300’s power:weight ratio is the least, while in terms of the torque:weight ratio also, it is just better than the Nexon. Compared against the other cars, the XUV300’s claimed fuel efficiency is also the least.

Similar to all the turbo-petrol SUVs in this segment, now the XUV300 also offers an automatic transmission option. In this case, its claimed fuel efficiency is second least in the segment, being better than only the Nexon.

Should you buy the base variant XUV300 W4 or settle for a higher variant instead, we shall discuss it after looking into the next variant details.

What Are The Features of Mahindra XUV300 W6 Variant ?

The XUV300 W6 variant is around Rs 1.15 lakh more expensive than the W4 variant. The W6 variant also comes with an optional sunroof, for which you will need to shell out an additional Rs 27,000 in case of the petrol-manual and diesel-AMT powertrains, and Rs 15,000 extra in case of the diesel-manual powertrain option.

If you go for the AMT option, then the W6 variant further adds the features like electronic stability control and hill start assist

We think that in this price point the W6 variant should have also included features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, height adjustable driver seat, rear defogger, rear wiper and rear parking camera.

As per our internal data, this variant’s added features do not justify the incremental cost of Rs 1.15 lakh.

However, if you decide to buy the W6 variant along with the sunroof option, then it’ll be a better value package. This is because Mahindra is charging a very minimal price for the sunroof option in all the powertrain options of the XUV300.

Also Read - 2020 Mahindra XUV300 vs Nissan Kicks - Price, Specs, Features, Mileage Comparison

We think that with either the petrol or diesel engine options, if you are considering the W4 variant, then you are going to compromise on basic features.

In case of the diesel engine, we recommend that you do consider the W6 with the sunroof option over the W4 variant, so that you get all the basic features, plus a few good-to-have features while not compromising much on the value.

In case of the petrol engine, consider buying the W8 variant rather than the W6 with sunroof.

If you are planning to buy the XUV300 in either petrol or diesel version along with AMT, then whether you should go for the W6 or a higher variant, we will discuss it after looking at the features details of the next variant.

WHat Are The Features of Mahindra XUV300 W8 Variant?

The XUV300 W8 petrol-manual is around Rs 60,000 costlier than the W6 with sunroof, while in the diesel-manual’s case, it is around Rs 90,000 expensive and Rs 83,000 costlier when it comes to the diesel-AMT variant.

The W8 with the diesel-manual powertrain is crossing the price slab of Rs 10 lakh, hence in many states it will attract more tax. Therefore, with the W6 with sunroof variant, its on-road price difference will be around Rs 1.30 lakh.

The W8 variant adds-in a whole bunch of features over the W6. Its additional styling features include - 17-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, leather-wrapped steering wheel and silver skid plates.

Compared to the W6 variant with sunroof, as per our internal data, the W8 variant’s added features have a perceived value of around Rs 1 lakh, considering this variant lacks sunroof.

In case of the petrol engine, we’d strongly recommend going for the W8 variant, while in the diesel-AMT powertrain’s case also the W8 is a worthy buy. However, when it comes to the diesel-manual powertrain, we’d not recommend the W8 and will suggest that you go for the W6 variant with sunroof option if you are looking for an entry-level variant.

With the diesel-manual powertrain, you have the choice of buying the W8 variant with the sunroof option, for which Mahindra is charging around Rs 25,000 extra -- which is nominal.

Now to sum up all the variants of the Mahindra XUV300. If you are considering the petrol version of the XUV300, then we recommend the W8 variant. In comparison, the W6 with sunroof option is a better value option than the W6, but only because of the sunroof and the attractive pricing for it.
