What Are The Engine Specifications of MG Hector Plus?

The Hector Plus comes packed with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that is capable of generating 143PS of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque. The power and torque outputs remain the same in case of both the normal and hybrid versions. The Hector Plus doesn’t have a direct petrol-powered D2-segment SUV rival, but compared to the Toyota Innova Crysta MPV petrol, its turbo-petrol engine offers better torque:weight ratio and claimed fuel efficiency.

The Hector Plus now offers the options of both CVT and DCT types automatic transmissions with the petrol engine. MG officially says that the CVT is more suitable for city driving, and we also agree.

As per our internal data, the Super variant’s added features don’t completely justify the incremental cost of Rs 1.50 lakh. However, this variant mostly covers all the basic features, which are usually expected in this price range, except for the features like electrically foldable ORVMs, keyless entry, auto AC and auto-dimming IRVM.

So, if you wish to buy an affordable variant of the Hector Plus petrol, and you’re okay driving a manual 7-seater car, then we recommend the Super variant. This is despite the fact of compromising a little on value for the sake of some useful good-to-have features.

What Are The Features of MG Hector Smart Variant?

The Hector Plus petrol Smart variant is Rs 2.37 lakh more expensive than the Super variant. The Smart variant comes with automatic transmission, while in the middle row it gets captain seats instead of the bench-type seat. However, this variant doesn’t get the mild hybrid powertrain.

According to our internal data, only the additional features of the Smart variant justify almost Rs 2 lakh of incremental value, and you additionally get the automatic transmission. Hence, in terms of ownership experience and value -- the Smart variant is far superior than the Super variant. We would recommend all the prospective buyers of the Hector Plus petrol to at least consider the Smart variant. However, it is unfortunate that this variant doesn’t get auto AC.

What Are The Features of MG Hector Plus Sharp Variant?

The Hector Plus petrol’s top Sharp manual variant has a price jump of Rs 63,000 from the Smart automatic. Hence, buying this top variant depends on your personal preference and requirements.

MG Hector Plus Petrol Variants - Which Variant To Buy?

Let’s sum up all the petrol variant-wise recommendations on the 2021 MG Hector Plus, in order to make your buying decision easier.

The Hector Plus petrol is now available in 4 powertrain options -- petrol-manual, petrol-DCT, petrol-CVT and hybrid-manual.

For the budget buyers who want to stick to an entry-level variant, the Super variant with the petrol-manual powertrain will be the suitable option. This variant mostly covers all the must-have features in its own price range. Yes, you’ll compromise a bit on the value by choosing this variant, but the ownership experience will make up for it.

If you are looking for a more feature-rich variant, then we recommend that you go for the automatic transmission option, as it will make your drive more convenient. MG officially recommends the CVT transmission for city focused driving, and we agree with this.

With the petrol-automatic powertrain, our top recommendation is the Smart variant, as it is suitably loaded and a sensible choice. We also suggest this variant’s manual version to be considered by all buyers for its additional features and value.

Above the Smart variant, the top Sharp variant primarily offers additional feel-good features, which justify the incremental cost.
