These include - touchscreen infotainment system with steering-mounted controls, rear wiper, remote central locking, height adjustable driver seat and electrically adjustable ORVMs. Apart from these the other noteworthy additional features of the XM variant are - fog lamps and multi drive modes.

According to our internal data, the XM variant’s extra features do not justify the price increment of Rs 1.31 lakh. Moreover, for a D2-segment SUV, the XM variant lacks some important features. So, if you are considering buying the XM variant, then be prepared to compromise on the ownership experience. We are not recommending the Safari XM variant for the prospective buyers for the given reasons.

Tata Safari Variants - Which One To Buy?

Let’s sum up all the variant-wise recommendations of the 2021 Tata Safari. If you are considering buying the Safari with manual transmission, then you shouldnt consider the base XE and XM variants. These two variants have a number of missing features that are expected in cars at these respective price points. In fact, the XM variant is the least value-for-money variant in the entire Safari lineup.

We recommend the Safari XT variant, which comes loaded with several useful as well as good-to-have features which is appropriate at its price point. According to us, this variant is a sensible package in terms of features, and is adequate for most of the buyers. The XT+ variant comes with the added feature of panoramic sunroof. So, the XT+ variant is also a sensible buy owing to its value and appeal.

Above the XT and XT+, the XZ variant adds a number of safety and feel-good features. This variant is a sensible choice in terms of value, but its added features are not necessary or compelling for many buyers. If premium features such as JBL audio system, leather upholstery, side and curtain airbags and powered driver seat are highly appealing to you, then you can definitely consider going for the XZ variant.

If premium appeal is important for you and you are considering the Safari XZ variant for the same, then we think that the XZ+ will be a better option. The XZ+ offers a sunroof and optional captain seats, which would improve the overall premium cabin experience for the rear occupants. There is also the Adventure Persona special edition based on this variant that offers an added sportier exclusive visual appeal. If the special edition appeals to you, then you can certainly consider buying it.

In case of the automatic transmission, again we do not recommend the XM variant, for being too basic. Apart from the XMA, there are only 2 AT variant options - the XZ and XZ+. As already mentioned, the XZ+ variant comes with  panoramic sunroof and option of captain seats. If these features matter to you then go for the XZ+ AT variant, or else the XZ is the only option for you.
