Maruti Suzuki Alto Pros & Cons

Check out pros and cons about the Maruti Suzuki Alto that are worth highlighting for a potential buyer. Here are some of the highlights of the benefits of buying the Maruti Suzuki Alto. We'll also list out the Alto drawbacks to help you make an informed buying decision.

Alto Advantanges
  • Compact Dimensions Make It A Perfect City Car

The Alto 800 is currently one of the smallest cars on sale. It measures 3445mm in length and 1490mm in width, making it very compact and easy to drive in tight spaces. It also offers good visibility all around and is easily manoeuvrable inside the city.

  • Good Fuel Efficiency

The Alto 800 offers a fuel efficiency of 22kmpl with its petrol engine and 31.5kmpkg with the petrol CNG option. Since Renault have discontinued the Kwid 0.8L, the Alto 800 has no direct rival.

  • Impressive After-Sales Support And Resale Value

After-sales service is the backbone of Maruti Suzuki in India. The Alto 800 enjoys a reassuring after-sales network and it is very easy to find a qualified technician for Maruti Suzuki cars even in remote locations. In addition to that, the Alto 800, being one of the best-selling cars in India, also enjoys higher resale value because of less depreciation.

  • Option Of Factory-Fitted CNG

The Alto 800 offers a factory-fitted CNG option. It offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 31.5kmpkg, making it a very sensible city car for buyers with high running.

Alto Disadvantanges
  • Low Ground Clearance

The Alto 800 offers 160mm of ground clearance, which doesn’t inspire confidence while tackling bad roads. Its past rival, the Renault Kwid, offered 184mm ground clearance. However, it now only comes with a 1.0L normal petrol engine.

  • Small 12-inch Wheels

The Alto 800 gets small 12-inch wheels, which are currently the smallest of any passenger car on sale. The 145-section tyre width is also quite narrow and further ruin its road presence. While the Kwid 0.8L is no longer available, it offered 165/70 R14 tyres even in its base variant, thus setting a new benchmark.

  • Low Engine Output

The 0.8L engine of the Alto 800 produces 41PS of power at 6000rpm and 60Nm of torque at 3500rpm. These outputs are inadequate for highway driving and make the Alto 800 strictly a city car.

  • Relatively Pricey

The Alto 800 seems quite pricey considering that it’s an old product. The new Alto K10 costs a little more and justifies the price gap over the Alto 800 with better performance, mileage, ground clearance, cabin space and fresh styling.
