Pros & Cons

Advantages
    • The new Tucson offers a choice of both petrol and diesel engine options. Its arch rival — the Volkswagen Tiguan offers a petrol engine while the Citroen C5 Aircross — is only available with a diesel engine. Apart from the Jeep Compass, the Tucson is the only SUV in its class to offer both petrol and diesel engine options.

    • The diesel automatic 4WD powertrain of the Tucson commands a premium of Rs. 1.52 lakh over the diesel automatic 2WD. The 1.52 lakh price premium is reasonable for the 4WD system and it also solidifies its SUV appeal.

    • Even the base variant of the Tucson offers a long list of features like LED headlights with cornering function, electronic parking brake, 18-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree parking camera, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, LED tail lights and panoramic sunroof. The top variant further adds powered passenger seats, heated and ventilated seats, terrain modes and a powered tailgate.

    • The Tucson rivals other compact premium SUVs like the Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross and Volkswagen Tiguan. Among all its rivals, the Tucson is the only SUV in its class to offer Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). It offers safety features such as auto emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert and avoidance and adaptive cruise control.

    Disadvantages
      • The 2.0L normal petrol engine of the Tucson lacks the power and torque output one would expect from an SUV from this segment. Furthermore, the fluid coupling torque converter transmission further reduces its fuel efficiency, especially in bumper-to-bumper traffic driving.

      • The 2.0L turbo diesel engine of the Tucson commands a premium ranging from Rs. 2.50 lakh to 2.70 lakh over the normal petrol variants, which is on the higher side.

      • While the Tucson boasts a class-leading length, it stands below the Citroen C5 Aircross in terms of width, height and ground clearance. As a result, the Tucson lacks the butch SUV appeal when compared with the C5 Aircross.

      • Even though the Tucson comes packed with a ton of features, it misses quite a few such as puddle lamps, rear window and windscreen window curtains and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

      Expert Verdict

Price & Value: Tucson (2022-2025) is more affordable to buy.

Performance & Mileage: 3 Series GT delivers better performance with more power and torque, whereas 3 Series GT focuses on efficiency and lower running costs.

Space & Comfort: 3 Series GT is the longest and widest of the group, which should translate to better cabin space, while Tucson (2022-2025) offers the highest ground clearance—useful for poor roads and speed breakers. Boot space is largest in Tucson (2022-2025), making it more practical for luggage.

Features & Safety: Feature-wise, 3 Series GT offers the richest equipment list. 3 Series GT misses out on some basic safety, functional or convenience features that rivals provide.

Which one should you buy? Choose the BMW 3 Series GT 320d Sport if your priorities are stronger performance, better fuel efficiency and more cabin space. Consider the Hyundai Tucson (2022-2025) Signature Dual Tone if you value a lower on-road price, more boot space and higher ground clearance. Overall, the Hyundai Tucson (2022-2025) Signature Dual Tone offers the better balance for buyers who prioritise a lower on-road price and more boot space.
