Pros & Cons

Advantages
    • The Scorpio nameplate is highly sought after in India and it’s famous for its rugged nature. Based on a ladder-on-frame chassis, the Scorpio Classic is capable of gobbling up all kinds of terrains. Additionally, the Scorpio enjoys high resale value in both urban and rural areas.
    • The new Scorpio Classic offers 14% better fuel efficiency than before courtesy of an all-aluminium engine and better calibration. Furthermore, Mahindra have retuned the engine of the Scorpio Classic to offer better driveability, with over 77% of its peak torque available from 1000rpm.
    • Mahindra offer the Scorpio Classic with multiple seating options. Buyers can either choose a 7-seater or a 9-seater option. Furthermore, the 7-seater version comes with 2 seating configurations, captain seats with front-facing 3rd row seats or bench seats with side facing 3rd row seats. If you opt for the 7-seater version with captain seats, the Scorpio Classic offers centre armrest for the 3rd row passengers as well, which is a very rare feature in this segment.
    • The new diesel engine in the Scorpio Classic offers better refinement and driveability than before. Additionally, thanks to the cable-operated manual transmission, it offers shorter and more precise throws with fewer vibrations than before.
    Disadvantages
      • Mahindra offer the new Scorpio Classic in S and S11 variants. While the S offers a barebone experience with a lot of missing features like remote central locking, rear wiper, height adjustable driver seat and music system, the S11 doesn’t offer enough value for the price. It fails to justify the premium over the S variant with the features it offers.
      • The Scorpio Classic S11 rubs its shoulders with the Scorpio N Z6 variant and is only slightly more affordable than the Z8 variants. Needless to say, the Scorpio N is a far superior product than the Scorpio Classic. The Scorpio N offers bigger dimensions, better space and comfort along with more powerful engine options.
      • The Scorpio Classic lacks a couple of features that you would otherwise expect from an SUV of its class. These features include electric sunroof, front parking sensors, power-folding mirrors, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, the Scorpio Classic doesn’t offer good space on the inside despite having a butch presence and large dimensions. Even the space management is poor, with little to no space to store bottles and cups.

      Expert Verdict

Price & Value: Scorpio Classic is more affordable to buy.

Performance & Mileage: 488 delivers better performance with more power and torque, whereas Scorpio Classic focuses on efficiency and lower running costs.

Space & Comfort: 488 is the longest and widest of the group, which should translate to better cabin space, while Scorpio Classic offers the highest ground clearance—useful for poor roads and speed breakers. Boot space is largest in 488, making it more practical for luggage.

Features & Safety: Feature-wise, 488 offers the richest equipment list. 488 misses out on some basic safety, functional or convenience features that rivals provide.

Which one should you buy? Choose the Ferrari 488 Spider if your priorities are stronger performance and more cabin space. Consider the Mahindra Scorpio Classic S11 7CC if you value a lower on-road price and better fuel efficiency. Overall, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic S11 7CC offers the better balance for buyers who prioritise a lower on-road price and better fuel efficiency.
