Pros & Cons

Advantages
  • Smart, clean & proportional styling with straight lines, which age better than busy curves

  • Tried-and-tested 1.5L engine with 6-speed manual and CVT automatic should be reliable and trouble free for long-term use

  • Feature loaded with top features including: panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, ventilated front seats, 8-way power driver seat, ADAS 1x camera & w/ 3x radars, dual-camera dashcam, 12 parking sensors, and more

  • CNG-manual powertrain is also joining the lineup later

  • Hyundai's vast sales and service network is second only to Maruti Suzuki, which makes it fairly easy to own and maintain most of their cars

  • The Citroen C3 Aircross is currently the only SUV in its segment to offer 3-row seating. It comes with third row seats that can be removed when not in use to liberate a segment-best boot space of 511 litres.

  • Citroen surprised the Indian audience with a sub-10 lakh starting price, making it the only C-SUV to come under 10 lakh ex-showroom. Citroen are yet to share the full price list of the C3 Aircross SUV.

  • The Citroen C3 Aircross offers a 200mm ground clearance, which is considerably better than the best-sellers like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which offer 190mm ground clearance.

  • Ride quality has been a hallmark of Citroen offerings globally and that stands true with the C3 Aircross as well. It comes with Citroen’s famed advanced comfort active suspension, which offers a cushy ride without taking a toll on the dynamics.

  • The 1.2L turbo petrol engine of the C3 Aircross offers better performance compared to the small-capacity 1.0L turbocharged and 1.5L normal petrol engines offered with the rivals. Additionally, it also attracts 7% lower GST compared to some of its rivals.

Disadvantages
  • Because of its smaller size, it will have poorer road presence compared to a larger C-segment SUV like Creta, Elevate, Grand Vitara, etc. while costing not much less

  • No CNG-automatic in the pipeline

  • The interior and touchpoint quality is inferior to the smaller Venue and slightly pricier Creta

  • Feature distribution leaves must-have features mingled with good-to-haves, which makes it difficult to easily recommend a variant to buyer seeing functional features

  • Larger and more feature-rich Victoris base variant costs about the same as Bayon base after factoring in the discounts and offers better perceived interior and touchpoint quality

  • On the higher end, the Elevate offers significantly superior road presence and a larger cabin for about the same price

  • Automatic transmission is not available in lower variants

  • Since the C3 Aircross falls in the C-SUV segment, we expect it to offer a couple of features that we expect from a C-segment SUV. These features include automatic climate control, LED headlights, cruise control, electric sunroof, wireless phone charger and front ventilated seats.

  • Since the 5-seater C3 Aircross does away with 3rd-row seats, the mounting points for the seats in the 5-seater variants of the C3 Aircross are different, resulting in less legroom. Furthermore, its 5-seater variants lack features like sliding 2nd-row seats, rear seat armrest and rear AC vents, which the 7-seater C3 Aircross offers.

  • Citroen offer the C3 Aircross with a sole 1.2L turbo petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission only. The SUV sold in the Indonesian market, on the other hand, comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. We expect Citroen to offer the same transmission option in India soon.

  • Citroen are expanding in the country but their network isn’t strong enough to cater to the tier-2 and tier-3 markets. Additionally, Citroen offerings are yet to prove their reliability in varied and harsh Indian driving conditions.

Expert Verdict

Price & Value: Aircross is more affordable to buy.

Performance & Mileage: Bayon delivers better performance with more power and torque, whereas Aircross focuses on efficiency and lower running costs.

Space & Comfort: Aircross is the longest and widest of the group, which should translate to better cabin space, while Bayon offers the highest ground clearance—useful for poor roads and speed breakers. Boot space is largest in Bayon, making it more practical for luggage.

Features & Safety: Feature-wise, Bayon offers the richest equipment list. Aircross misses out on some basic safety, functional or convenience features that rivals provide.

Which one should you buy? Choose the Hyundai Bayon HX10 Dual Tone if your priorities are stronger performance, a richer feature list and more boot space. Consider the Citroen Aircross Max 7 Seater if you value a lower on-road price, better fuel efficiency and more cabin space. Overall, the Hyundai Bayon HX10 Dual Tone offers the better balance for buyers who prioritise stronger performance and a richer feature list.
