Advantages
  • Jeep Compass is the most affordable Jeep SUV in India. Other SUVs like the Rubicon and the Cherokee are far more expensive than the Compass. The Compass’ rivals, Hyundai Tucson and the Citroen C5 Aircross, are the flagship models from their respective brands. However, the Compass is the entry gate to the Jeep brand in India.
  • Jeep Compass comes with a 1.4L turbo petrol engine that puts out 163PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It’s more powerful than Tucson’s 2.0L normal petrol engine which produces 153PS of power and 192Nm of torque. Unlike its rivals, the Compass also offers an option of a 6-speed manual transmission with the turbo petrol engine. The Citroen C5 Aircross, on the other hand, doesn’t even offer a petrol engine option.
  • Jeep offer the Compass with two engine options - 2.0L turbo diesel and 1.4L turbo petrol. Both the engines can either be had with a 6-speed manual transmission or 9-speed torque converter automatic and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic respectively. Other segment rivals do not offer manual transmission options with either of the engines.
  • The base Sport petrol manual variant of the Compass justifies its asking price well. Jeep offer the Compass Sport with turbo petrol manual, turbo petrol automatic and diesel manual at Rs. 17.79 lakh, Rs. 20.37 lakh and Rs. 19.49 Lakh respectively.
  • With the facelift, Jeep India added a host of new features to the Compass. Most of the new features are on offer on the top variant only. Key feature additions include a fully-digital instrument cluster, freestanding touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, 360-degree parking camera, and powered driver’s seat.

  • While the Honda Elevate offers respectable dimensions for its class, its boot space and ground clearance are the best in the segment. The Elevate offers 458 litres of boot space and 220mm of ground clearance, both of which are the best when compared to other C-segment SUVs.

  • The base SV variant of the Elevate comes loaded with a good set of must-have and feel-good features. The features of the base SV variant include front and rear power windows, powered side mirrors, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, LED projector headlights, height-adjustable driver’s seat, LED tail lights, shark fin antenna, and a front armrest.

  • The Honda Elevate offers a boxy design with an imposing stance. Design elements like a tall and flat bonnet, and a flat roofline help enahnce its road presence over its arch rivals.

  • Like the City sedan, Honda offer advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) with the Elevate, which helps improve the overall safety of the SUV. The Elevate gets ADAS features like auto emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

  • The 1.5L normal petrol engine has proven its reliability in the Honda City and the sama engine is also offered in the Elevate without much changes. Hence, it is also likely to be very dependable and reliable compared to the small-capacity turbocharged engines of its rivals.

  • Unlike its rivals who charge upward of Rs. 1.5 lakh for the automatic transmission option, Honda only charge Rs. 1.10 lakh over the equivalent manual transmission. Furthermore, Honda offer the automatic option in all Elevate variants, save for the base SV.

Disadvantages
  • Jeep Compass falls in the C-segment category of cars. It’s dimensions are a tad smaller than its rivals, like the Hyundai Tucson and Citroen C5 Aircross. The C5 Aircross offers a ground clearance of 230mm that is much higher than the Compass’ 178mm. Hence, its road presence isn’t as attractive as that of the Tucson or the C5 Aircross.
  • You can get the Compass 4WD only with the diesel automatic powertrain. Similarly, you can only get the automatic with 4WD as Jeep do not offer a diesel automatic option with 2WD. Therefore, to choose any one of the two, you have to compromise with the other one as well. That also increases the cost between the variants by a big margin. The diesel automatic 4WD is dearer by around Rs 4 lakh than the diesel manual option.
  • Jeep do not offer cruise control on variants of the Compass equipped with a manual transmission. That would have made sense if Jeep were offering adaptive cruise control but that’s not the case. You will have to upgrade to either the diesel automatic 4WD or petrol automatic to get the normal cruise control.
  • The Compass does not offer any of its key features in the mid variants. Newly added features like ventilated seats, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree parking camera, LED projector headlamps, and LED fog lamps are only available with the top variant.

  • The Honda Elevate misses features such as a panoramic sunroof, front ventilated seats, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), powered driver’s seat, and 360-degree parking camera.

  • While the lower variants of the Elevate offer a good set of feel-good and must-have features, features such as side thorax and curtain airbags, rear armrest, and ADAS are only offered in the higher variants.

  • While the normal petrol engine of the Elevate is the most-powerful among its normal petrol and small-capacity turbo rivals, it lacks the torque and superior driveability of its rivals.

Price & Value: Elevate is more affordable to buy.

Performance & Mileage: Compass delivers better performance with more power and torque, whereas Compass focuses on efficiency and lower running costs.

Space & Comfort: Compass is the longest and widest of the group, which should translate to better cabin space, while Elevate offers the highest ground clearance—useful for poor roads and speed breakers. Boot space is largest in Elevate, making it more practical for luggage.

Features & Safety: Feature-wise, Elevate offers the richest equipment list. Compass misses out on some basic safety, functional or convenience features that rivals provide.

Which one should you buy? Choose the Jeep Compass Track Edition if your priorities are stronger performance, better fuel efficiency and more cabin space. Consider the Honda Elevate ZX Plus Black if you value a lower on-road price, more boot space and higher ground clearance. Overall, the Honda Elevate ZX Plus Black offers the better balance for buyers who prioritise a lower on-road price and more boot space.
