Nissan Magnite Scores 5-Star Global NCAP Rating After Safety Upgrades | V3Cars
The made-in-India Nissan Magnite has achieved a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating for adult occupant protection under their latest testing protocols. The latest GNCAP safety rating is valid for the 2025 Magnite facelift only.

The latest safety rating for the Magnite puts it on par with rivals such as the Tata Punch and Nexon as well as the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq.
Built at Nissan’s manufacturing plant in India, the Magnite is sold domestically as well as in key export markets like South Africa, where it has now become the first car to receive a 5-star safety rating under Global NCAP’s updated crash test regime.
2025 Nissan Magnite 5-Star Safety Rating Explained
Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)
In the adult occupant protection test, the 2025 Magnite scored a 5-star rating, offering good protection to the drivers and front passenger’s head and neck. The driver’s chest received good protection, while the passenger’s chest showed adequate protection. Protection for both the driver’s and passenger’s knees was rated as good. The driver’s and passenger’s tibias showed adequate protection. The footwell area was rated as stable, indicating it maintained its integrity in the head-on collision test. The vehicle's body shell was also rated as stable and capable of withstanding further crash forces.
In the side movable barrier test, the Magnite provided good protection for the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis. In the more severe side pole impact test, the head, abdomen and pelvis showed good protection, while the chest received adequate protection.
Child Occupant Protection (COP)
In the child occupant protection test, the 2025 Magnite scored a 3-star rating. In the frontal impact test with child restraint system (CRS), the child seat for the 3-year-old dummy was installed facing rearwards using the ISOFIX anchorages and support leg. However, it was not able to prevent head contact with the interior of the car during the frontal impact test, leading to a deduction in points. The child seat for the 18-month-old dummy was installed facing rearwards with ISOFIX and a support leg. It was able to prevent head exposure in the frontal impact test.
For the 18-month-old dummy, the CRS offered full side impact protection, whereas for the 3-year-old dummy, the test showed head exposure, resulting in a deduction in points.
2025 Nissan Magnite Safety Features
The 2025 Nissan Magnite offers 6 airbags and electronic stability control as standard. Other safety features include 360-degree surround view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and ISOFIX child seat mounts. However, it’s worth noting that the Magnite does not offer the possibility to deactivate the front passenger airbag, which is unsafe for a rearward-facing child seat in the event of a crash.
The Nissan Magnite isn’t the only car that improved its GNCAP score after it was upgraded and sent for retesting. In the past, Tata Motors sent the Nexon for retesting after making structural changes to the SUV. The changes helped the Nexon’s adult occupant protection (AOP) rating go up from 4 stars to 5 stars.
The Mahindra XUV300, too, initially received a 4-star rating for adult occupant protection and 5-star rating for child occupant protection (COP). But after modifications, it secured a full 5 star rating for AOP and 5-star rating for COP.
Similarly, the Kia Carens had initially received a 1-star safety rating from the Global NCAP, but after substantial modifications to its structure, the MPV was sent for a retest voluntarily, which saw its safety rating go up to 3-stars.
