MG Astor SUV reveal tomorrow Hyundai Creta Kia seltos rival | V3Cars

MG will reveal their smallest SUV for the Indian market tomorrow. The MG Astor is their first C-segment SUV, which will directly rival the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. While there are more rivals in this price band, Seltos and Creta are the top two players, which the MG Astor is hoping to beat.

As the dimension comparison indicates, the MG Astor is up there with the Seltos and Creta and measures a size larger than the two rivals. This should give the Astor a slight edge over the two established South Korean twins.

MG Astor Engine Specs - Expected

Internationally, the Astor is available with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre normal petrol engine. Clearly, the Astor is not trying to replicate the performance of its rivals with these powertrains. Instead, it looks like the Astor will pack less power than the Creta and Seltos but make up for it with the technology and a crazy price tag.

MG Astor Features - Expected

Based on the recent technology reveal of the MG Astor, we know that the car will come with advanced driver assistance features. The list of ADAS-based features will include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Traffic sign recognition and speed warning
  • Pedestrian detection and full auto-braking
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Blindspot alert
  • Auto-high beam off

In addition to this, the Astor will also get a mini bot to keep the driver and occupants company during their journeys. This mini bot will have a 4.5-inch screen to display emotions and possibly information we ask of it.

The mini-bot is an advanced version built upon the chit-chat feature, which was first offered in the MG Hector and Gloster. The ‘chit-chat’ feature lets the occupants chat with the car’s AI bot to get through a boring journey. However, it mainly benefits the driver when there is no one else in the car to chat with.

Among the usual set of features we expect from a C-segment SUV, we can expect the car to offer:

  • LED projector headlamps
  • LED tail lamps
  • LED ambient lighting
  • Cruise control
  • Auto AC
  • 10.1-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay
  • Keyless entry w/ push-button start/stop
  • 17-inch machined alloy wheels
  • Reversing camera
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • Voice-based commands
  • Panoramic electric sunroof
  • 360-degree camera

MG Astor Price - Expected

On the price front, we are expecting the MG Astor to undercut the Seltos and Creta. The base variant will most likely cost under Rs. 10 lakh but justify the premium with way more features than the base trims of the Seltos and Creta.

The top trim of the Astor should cost a fair bit less than the Creta and Seltos’ top variants.

The MG Astor’s ex-showroom prices could range between Rs. 10 lakh for the base trim with manual transmission and 15.5 lakh for the top-spec variant with the automatic.

MG Astor Launch Date - Expected

We are expecting to see the final price list of the MG Astor sometime in the first week of October.
