Toyota Hilux India Launch In January 2022 | V3Cars

Toyota are going to launch the Hilux pickup truck in India in January 2022. The Hilux is a popular lifestyle pickup truck sold in many countries abroad. It is based on Fortuner and hence shares its platform and features with it. It will use the IMV-2 platform used in Fortuner and Innova Crysta.

The Hilux will measure about 5.3m in length, significantly longer than Fortuner due to the additional cargo bed at the back. The front has a hexagonal grille, skid plate and projector headlamp setup with integrated DRLs. A thick black body cladding runs all around the truck giving it a muscular look. The door handles and window lining is finished in black and a side step is also provided. The rear has a big bumper and LED taillights.

Toyota have not shared any details regarding the powertrain options. But considering that most Hilux customers will use the truck for heavy duty work or at least want it to have the ability to do so, we do not expect it to get a petrol engine. Turbo diesel engines are better for off-roading and hauling as they have high bottom end torque. So, it may share the 2.8L engine with the Fortuner and the Innova. Higher variants could get a 4-wheel-drive setup while the lower ones could get the same engine with rear-wheel drivetrain.

As Toyota will make the Hilux in India, we expect these pickups to cost between Rs. 30.0 lakh and Rs. 35.0 lakh. It will rival other lifestyle pickup trucks like Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
