VinFast Begin Construction Of EV Manufacturing Facility In India | V3Cars

Vietnam-based EV manufacturer, VinFast, have commenced construction of their first EV manufacturing facility in India. The new EV facility will not only cater to the Indian domestic market but also serve as an export hub for several other markets.

VinFast have officially broken ground to set up their first integrated EV facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The ceremony was conducted following the MoU signed between VinFast and the Tamil Nadu government under which the carmaker has promised an investment of around $500 million spanning over 5 years. The upcoming manufacturing facility will spread over 400 acres and boast an annual production capacity of 1.50 lakh units. It is estimated to create job opportunities for 3,000 to 3,500 individuals.

VinFast Global Portfolio

VinFast operates in several global markets including the US and Canada. The Vietnam-based carmaker currently offers 2 models – the VF8 electric and VF9 electric SUVs. The VF8 is a 5-seater electric SUV that offers a range of up to 424km from its 87.7kWh battery pack. It comes in 2 variants – Eco and Plus. The VF8 Eco offers 350PS of power while the Plus puts out 407PS. Both versions come with a 10-year or 2.01 lakh kilometre warranty.

The VF9 is a 7-seater electric SUV that measures over 5 metres in length. It offers a large panoramic glass roof and a 15.6-inch touchscreen among other noteworthy features. Powered by a 123kWh battery pack, the VF9 offers up to 531km of range depending on the variant. It produces 407PS of power and is capable of hitting 0-100kmph in 6.2 seconds. Like the VF8, the VF9, too, comes in 2 variants – Eco and Plus.
