Volkswagen have offered a first glimpse of their upcoming entry-level electric vehicle, slated for a global debut in 2027. This new model will serve as an all-electric successor to the now-discontinued VW Up hatchback, expanding the brand’s global EV portfolio.

Volkswagen Tease Upcoming Entry-Level EV Ahead Of 2027 Global Debut

New Volkswagen EV Design Details

Teaser images reveal a sleek front fascia featuring rectangular headlamps with 3D LED graphics, an illuminated VW logo, and slim vertical DRLs. The design suggests a slightly raised, crossover-like stance with sculpted fenders, hinting at a rugged yet modern aesthetic. Curvy body panels and flowing lines are visible, likely designed with aerodynamics in mind.

2027 Volkswagen EV Platform And Powertrain

The entry-level EV from Volkswagen will utilise a shortened version of the brand’s MEB platform shared with the ID.2all hatchback. A front-mounted motor and a smaller, more cost-effective battery pack are expected. This same platform and powertrain are likely to underpin entry-level EVs from Skoda and SEAT for the European market.

Upcoming Volkswagen EV Expected Price

Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer emphasised the car’s focus on affordability, quality, and profitability, calling it a “Champions League” achievement. The target price is rumored to be approximately Rs. 18 lakh, making it accessible to a broader audience in Europe. The production location is yet to be finalised, but the Wolfsburg plant is being considered as a potential hub for EV production.

Will Volkswagen’s Upcoming EV Launch In India?

While this entry-level EV is exciting news for global markets, its India launch remains uncertain. Volkswagen is currently prioritising the development of EVs based on a localised version of the CMP architecture, dubbed the IMP (India Main Platform). This platform will underpin compact and mid-size electric SUVs planned for the Indian market. Therefore, it appears unlikely this particular entry-level EV will be offered in India anytime soon.
