Once reserved for luxury cars, the sunroof has slowly but steadily found its way into mass-market cars that we can afford. Today, one of every 4 cars sold in the country comes with a sunroof. While India’s weather and road conditions may not always be ideal to keep the sunroof open during a long drive, this feature is considered a luxury, much like touchscreens and push button start-stop systems. In this article, we list out cars with sunroof under Rs. 10.0 lakh that are currently on sale in India.
The Tata Altroz is currently the most affordable mass-market car in India to offer a sunroof. Tata introduced the sunroof feature in the Altroz with the launch of the Altroz CNG. A few weeks later, Tata Motors added the sunroof feature to the Altroz petrol, turbo petrol and diesel.
As of April 1, 2024, 9 variants of the Altroz hatchback offer a sunroof for under Rs. 10.0 lakh ex-showroom. They are as follows:

Except for the XM(S) variant, all the above-listed variants of the Tata Altroz offer a voice-assisted single-pane sunroof. The above list does not include Dark variants of the 2024 Altroz.
2. Kia Sonet
The Kia Sonet is the second most affordable car in India to offer a sunroof. A total of 5 variants of the Sonet offer a single-pane sunroof, but only 3 of these variants qualify for our list with ex-showroom prices of under Rs. 10.0 lakh. Here they are:

The Kia Sonet normal petrol is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission and 2 variants offer sunroof. All turbo petrol variants of the Kia Sonet cost above Rs. 10.0 lakh and hence, do not make it to our list. Only 1 variant of the Sonet diesel qualifies for our list with a price tag of just Rs. 100 shy of the Rs. 10.0 lakh barrier.
3. Hyundai Exter
The Hyundai Exter belongs to a segment lower than the 2 cars on top. However, its sunroof-equipped variants cost more than the sunroof-equipped variants of the Altroz and Sonet, thus finding itself in the third spot of our list of cars with sunroof under Rs. 10.0 lakh. The Hyundai Exter’s X, SX(O) and SX(O) connect offer a sunroof. Here are their prices in accordance of powertrain options:

Only 1 variant of the Tata Punch that offers sunroof did not make it to our list – the Creative Flagship Dual Tone AMT – as it costs about Rs. 20,000 more than our price barrier.
5. Mahindra XUV300
Back into the B2-segment again, the Mahindra XUV300 is the 5th most affordable car in India to offer a sunroof. The XUV300 is offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. However, only 3 variants make it to our list. All 3 are powered by Mahindra’s 1.2L turbo petrol engine but 1 – the XUV300 TurboSport – offers more power and torque than the other 2.

The W4 and W6 variants of the XUV300 petrol are powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 110PS of power and 200Nm of torque. The XUV300 TurboSport, on the other hand, comes with a more powerful 1.2L turbo petrol engine that produces 130PS of power and 230Nm of torque. It also offers an over boost function that momentarily increases torque to 250Nm.
6. Hyundai i20
The Hyundai i20 is the second Hyundai car on the list to offer sunroof for under Rs. 10.0 lakh. Hyundai’s B2-segment hatchback is a direct rival to the Tata Altroz on top of this list and its standard variants come with a 1.2L normal petrol engine with 2 transmission options – 5-speed manual and CVT automatic. The i20 is also available in a sportier guise called the i20 N Line and it comes with a 1.0L turbo petrol engine with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. While 5 variants of the Hyundai i20 and i20 N Line offer sunroof, only 2 standard variants and 1 N Line variant are priced under Rs. 10.0 lakh.

The last car to offer a sunroof under Rs. 10.0 lakh is the Tata Nexon, which received a thorough refresh last year. While the Tata Nexon’s variant list is long and confusing, to say the least, you’ll be happy to note only one variant of the Tata Nexon offers a sunroof for under Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom) – the Smart Plus S equipped with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Tata Nexon Smart Plus S is priced at Rs. 9,79,990 (ex-showroom).
However, if you are willing to stretch your budget by Rs. 30,000, you could get the Nexon Pure S variant which comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. The extra cog in the transmission is worth the premium in our books as it offers better highway driveability and helps improve fuel efficiency too.
