D-segment Length In A C-segment Car
The 5th-generation Honda City is currently the longest sedan in its segment. It measures 4583mm in length, which makes it the longest sedan in its segment. It is even longer than the Skoda Slavia and Hyundai Verna, albeit by a slight margin. In addition to length, the Honda City is also one of the most spacious sedans in its segment.
Wide Range Of Engine Options
Honda offer the 5th-generation City with 3 powertrain options — a petrol manual, a petrol automatic and a petrol hybrid automatic. All the powertrain options of the new City offer impressive fuel efficiency figures. The 1.5L normal petrol engine of the new City produces its peak torque at a lower RPM and also offers slightly better fuel efficiency than the 4th-gen City. The strong hybrid powertrain offers 27.13kmpl, which makes it the most fuel efficient sedan in its segment.
Sensibly-packaged V Variant — Good For Most Buyers
The 5th-gen Honda City comes in 4 variants — SV, V, VX and ZX. It is worth noting that the V variant offers a lot of features that should meet the needs of most buyers. To name a few, the Honda City V variant offers projector headlamps, LED DRLs, alloy wheels and a touchscreen infotainment system. It also offers a long list of standard safety features like ABS, EBD, 4 airbags, ESP, TC, HSA and ADAS.
Only Mass-Market Sedan With ADASThe Honda City is currently the only mass-market sedan to offer autonomous driving assistance systems (ADAS) as standard in most of its variants. The strong hybrid variants even offer adaptive cruise control with stop and go function. The City is also the only car to offer ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, with manual transmission.
Take a look at the ADAS features of the Honda City hybrid:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System
- Road Departure Mitigation
- Lane Keep Assist System
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Auto High Beam

Skinny 185-Section Tyres
The 5th-generation City comes with skinny 185-section tyres, which are too narrow by segment standards. Some premium hatchbacks, like the Maruti Nexa Baleno offer 195-section tyres. You can go one size wider and the City will still wear it as it came from the factory that way.
Expensive Hybrid Powertrain
The City hybrid costs a lot more than the equivalent petrol automatic variants. The new V hybrid variant of the City hybrid costs Rs. 5.27 lakh more than the City petrol automatic. The premium of Rs. 5.27 lakh is a lot higher than the market standard for hybrid powertrains. Even after considering the performance and fuel efficiency advantage, you will have to drive the City hybrid for 2 lakh km to recover the extra premium paid over the petrol automatic powertrain option.
No Turbo Petrol Options
While most C-segment sedans in the market now offer turbo petrol engine options, the City continues with a normal petrol engine. Hyundai offer the new Verna with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with both manual and dual-clutch automatic transmission options. Both Volkswagen and Skoda have now made a shift to 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol engines for the Virtus and Slavia, respectively. Turbo petrol engines offer better torque output at a lower and wider rev range for better drivability even at lower RPMs.
Worst Torque-To-Weight Ratio
The City normal petrol offers the least torque-to-weight ratio in the segment. The torque-to-weight ratio of the City normal petrol stands at 126Nm per tonne whereas the Virtus and Slavia’s 1.0L turbo petrol engine offers 150Nm per tonne.
