Audi have confirmed their plans to enter Formula 1 in 2026. Audi have registered themselves as an engine supplier in Formula 1 and will join the sport with its own engines. Audi are yet to reveal their plans regarding their operations in the sport and we can expect more details to emerge later this year.

Putting innumerous rumours to rest, Audi have confirmed their entry to Formula 1 for the 2026 season. The 2026 season will introduce a few technical changes, including the use of synthetic fuel. Additionally, 50% of the total power output in the 2026 Formula 1 cars will come from their new hybrid system. Hence, we can expect the new electric motors to produce around 544PS of power.

Starting 2026, the 1.6L petrol engine will run on fully synthetic fuel, resulting in net zero carbon emissions. Audi will reveal full details about their powertrain in the near future. However, Audi are yet to reveal their partner team in Formula 1. Several reports suggest Audi will most likely take over the Sauber team that is currently known as the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Orlen.

Audi’s F1 power unit will be built at Audi Sport’s state-of-the-art Competence Center Motorsport in Neuburg an der Donau, not far from AUDI AG’s company headquarters in Ingolstadt. The key to getting involved in the world’s most popular racing series is the clear plan to become more sustainable and cost-efficient. The new technical rules, which will apply from 2026, focus on greater electrification and advanced sustainable fuel. In addition to the existing cap on costs for teams, a cost cap for power unit manufacturers will be introduced in 2023. Additionally, Formula 1 has set itself the ambitious goal of being a carbon-neutral racing series by 2030.
