New Hyundai Electric SUV Spied Testing – Could It Be A Nexon EV Rival? | V3Cars
A new Hyundai SUV was spotted testing on our roads recently, and while the company has not officially revealed its identity yet, the proportions and design cues suggest this could be a compact electric SUV for the Indian market.
The test mule was spotted on Mumbai roads and features an upright stance, chunky styling elements and a boxy silhouette. More importantly, its size appears to position it above the Hyundai Exter and closer to B2-segment SUVs such as the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
Based on the proportions and Hyundai’s future product plans, this new SUV could become Hyundai’s answer to the rapidly expanding B2-segment electric SUV space in India.
Boxy Design With Ioniq 5-Inspired Elements
The new Hyundai SUV appears to adopt a more rugged and upright design language compared to the smoother styling seen on the Hyundai Creta EV. The test car features squared-off proportions, thick wheel arch cladding, muscular surfacing and a flat rear section that gives it a more SUV-like presence.
One of the most striking details is the 4 illuminated dots on the grille denoting the letter H in morse code as well as LED DRLs and taillights with a dot-pattern. These elements appear heavily inspired by the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Other visible highlights include:
- Flush-fitting door handles
- Chunky roof rails
- A thick C-pillar
- Dual-tone alloy wheels
- A prominent roof spoiler
- Blacked-out window surrounds

The overall styling suggests Hyundai may be trying to position this SUV as a youthful yet rugged electric SUV compared to the urban crossover styling of the Nexon EV.
Likely To Slot Between Venue And Creta
Based on the spy shots, the SUV looks noticeably larger than the Hyundai Exter and could slot somewhere between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s lineup.
That positioning would place it directly against mass-market electric SUVs like the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and even upcoming EVs such as Kia Syros EV. Hyundai currently lack a smaller EV positioned below the Creta EV, and this model could fill that gap perfectly.
Could Share Platform With Upcoming Kia Syros EV
We expect this new Hyundai EV to share its architecture and powertrain components with the upcoming Kia Syros EV. If that turns out to be true, the SUV may use Hyundai-Kia’s latest compact EV platform designed specifically for emerging markets.
Such a setup could help Hyundai achieve:
- Better interior packaging
- Improved battery placement
- Higher localisation
- Competitive pricing
- Greater real-world efficiency
Given Hyundai and Kia’s extensive component sharing strategy globally, this possibility appears highly plausible.
42kWh Battery Pack Could Offer Around 450km Range
While Hyundai have not revealed any details regarding this electric SUV, we expect it to be offered with the 42kWh pack currently offered in lower and mid variants of the Hyundai Creta EV.
If Hyundai uses a lighter and smaller body shell for this new SUV, the same battery pack could potentially deliver a claimed range of around 450km. That would place it neatly between the Nexon EV 30 and Nexon EV 45 variants.
Such positioning could give Hyundai a strong advantage in the segment, especially among buyers seeking longer range without stepping up to larger and more expensive EVs.
Interior Expected To Feature Premium Tech
While the interior of the test mule was not fully visible, spy shots indicate the presence of large digital displays. We expect the top variants of this electric SUV to offer 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment and digital instrument cluster. It could even be the new Venue’s curved display unit.
The visible camera modules mounted on the ORVMs also suggest the SUV could offer:
- 360-degree camera
- Blind view monitor
- Advanced parking assistance
- Connected car technology
The features list is also expected to include:
- Ventilated seats
- Panoramic sunroof
- ADAS features on top trims
- Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality
Hyundai’s EV Strategy In India Is Expanding Rapidly
Hyundai were among the earliest mainstream brands to enter India’s EV space with the Hyundai Kona Electric, but competition has intensified dramatically over the last few years.
With Tata and Mahindra aggressively expanding their EV portfolios, Hyundai now appear to be preparing a more comprehensive electric lineup spanning multiple price points and body styles.
If launched at the right price point, this upcoming electric SUV could become one of Hyundai’s most important EVs for the Indian market.
