Mahindra Bolero Neo Scores 1-Star Safety Rating In Global NCAP Crash Test | V3Cars
The Mahindra Bolero Neo scored a 1-star safety rating in Global NCAP’s latest round of crash tests under the ‘Safer Cars for India’ programme. The Bolero Neo’s 1-star safety rating is the lowest score a Mahindra SUV received since the previous generation Scorpio’s 0-start safety rating in 2016.
However, the Bolero Neo’s low safety rating does not come as a surprise since it is essentially a rebadged version of the TUV300, which is based on an older platform. Since the Scorpio’s 0-star safety rating in 2016, Mahindra have worked on improving the safety of their cars. Cars based on newer platforms have fared well in GNCAP tests. The Marazzo, which was launched in 2018, scored a 4-star safety rating, while the XUV300, XUV700 and Scorpio-N secured 5-star safety ratings in Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia programme. The Mahindra Thar, launched in 2020, boasts a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating.

2024 Mahindra Bolero Neo Global NCAP Crash Test Results
The Mahindra Bolero Neo, which only offers 2 airbags as standard, was tested under Global NCAP’s latest test protocols. It secured 20.26 points out of a maximum 34 in adult occupant protection.
In the frontal impact test, the Bolero Neo offered marginal protection to the driver’s head while the passenger’s head showed good protection. The driver’s and passenger’s neck showed good protection, while the driver’s and passenger’s chest showed weak and adequate protection, respectively. The footwell area and bodyshell of the Bolero Neo was rated unstable and not capable of withstanding further loadings. The driver’s and passenger’s knee showed marginal protection. The driver’s tibias showed marginal protection while the passenger’s tibias showed adequate to good protection.
In the side impact test, head, abdomen and pelvis showed good protection and chest showed adequate protection. The rear door on the struck side was found open after the test. The side pole impact test was not conducted as curtain airbags are not offered in the Bolero Neo. The lack of curtain airbags and seatbelt reminders for all passengers further contributed to the Bolero Neo’s low score. The presence of side facing 3rd row seats was also blamed for the low overall rating. In the case of child occupant protection, the Bolero Neo scored 12.71 points out of a maximum 49 points.
