What Are The Pros And Cons Of Maruti Suzuki Swift Petrol?

The pros or advantages of 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol are:

  • The Swift brand itself commands a level of respect and helps it hold resale value in the used market
  • The Swift’s new engine offers a class-leading mileage figure of 25.75kmpl
  • Maruti Suzuki’s wide service, spares network, low maintenance costs and easy repairability
  • 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, HSA, halogen projector headlamps are standard safety features, which emphasises the focus on safety
  • Reasonably long list of features include auto AC with rear AC vents, keyless entry, LED projector headlamps, cruise control and power mirrors

The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol has the following shortcomings or problems:

  • Missing features like TPMS, front armrest, sunroof, rear armrest
  • Cruise control is limited to the top model while the Nios offers it in the Sportz Executive and higher variants (~Rs. 7.30 lakh)
  • The 3-cylinder engine is a step back in the wrong direction for an enthusiast-friendly car like the Swift
  • Speaking of enthusiast, the lack of a turbo petrol engine also hurts the Swift’s image of a hot hatch
  • No CNG powertrain option at launch; since the Swift has chosen the efficiency route, we expect it to remain true to at least that path but the lack of CNG doesn’t help solidify its new image either
  • Nothing groundbreaking — no feature of the 2024 Swift warrants attention; it’s all available in the market at similar or lower price points; the Swift is only catching up and the price is also not low enough to deserve a lot of attention. In fact, the 2024 Swift still doesn’t have a few features we’ve started to see in cars at similar price points.

What Is The Price Of 2024 Maruti Swift Petrol Variants?

The 2024 Swift is available in 5 main variants: LXI, VXI, VXI (O), ZXI and ZXI Plus. VXI (O) is the new variant in the lineup. All 5 variants get the 1.2L petrol-manual powertrain while the AMT automatic is available in all variants except for the 2024 Swift LXI base model.

The petrol-manual variants of the new Swift 2024 cost between Rs. 6.49 lakh and Rs. 9.0 lakh (ex-showroom). The AMT automatic transmission carries a Rs. 50,000 premium over the manual. Pricing of the Swift petrol-automatic variants starts from Rs. 7.80 lakh and stretches up to Rs. 9.50 lakh.

  • Wheel covers
  • TPMS
  • Day/night inside mirror
  • Power mirrors (or at least internally-adjustable outside mirrors)

Despite a few missing features, the base model of the Swift 2024 comes across as a far better package than before. Lots of standard features and a poor value for money price for higher variants makes the LXI a suitable choice for budget buyers. Just add a few accessories and you’re good to go.

2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift LXI vs VXI Variant - Price, Feature Comparison

The VXI variant onwards, you get the petrol-automatic powertrain option with the Swift. With the manual transmission, the Swift VXI costs Rs. 7.30 lakh, which is Rs. 80,500 pricier than the lower LXI variant. With the AMT automatic, the Swift VXI will cost you Rs. 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

  • Height-adjustable driver seat

Not only does the Swift VXi not get a few key features we expect from a car at this price point, it also offers terrible value for money. The VXI variant is not recommended.

New Maruti Suzuki Swift Petrol VXI vs VXI (O) Variant - Price, Feature Comparison

The VXI-derived VXI (O) variant of the Swift costs Rs. 27,000 more and carries an ex-showroom price of Rs. 7.57 lakh with the manual and Rs. 8.07 lakh with the automatic transmission.

  • Height-adjustable driver seat

The VXI (O) comes across as a slightly better option than the VXI in terms of value for money but most of its features are good-to-have. Moreover, it’s not that much better than the VXI in value for money either. So, we’ll suggest you spend some more and just get the ZXI variant, which is our top recommendation for Swift 2024 buyers.

New Maruti Suzuki Swift Petrol VXI (O) vs ZXI Variant - Price, Feature Comparison

The ZXI variant of the Swift costs Rs. 8.30 lakh with the manual and Rs. 8.80 lakh with the automatic transmission. These prices are Rs. 73,000 higher than those of the lower VXI (O) variant.

Even in the ZXI variant, there are a few important missing features, but the value quotient is undeniably better than all other variants. So, the ZXI earns our top recommendation.

2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift Petrol ZXI vs ZXI Plus Variant - Price, Feature Comparison

The Swift top model (ZXI Plus) carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 9.0 lakh for the manual and Rs. 9.50 lakh for the automatic transmission. This variant is Rs. 70,000 more expensive than the lower ZXI variant.

Even in this variant, you may miss features like:

  • TPMS
  • Sunroof

The Swift ZXI Plus is suitable only for buyers who want a feature-loaded experience with minimal compromises. We’ll suggest buying the ZXI variant to most buyers and upgrading to ZXI Plus only if you find these features important to your ownership experience. At least on the value front, it’s not as bad as the lower VXI and VXI (O) variants of the new Swift.

Which Variant Of The Maruti Suzuki Swift Petrol Should You Buy?

Let’s start with the buying recommendation for Swift manual buyers. The LXI trim gets a decent number of safety features and is suitable for buyers on a very tight budget. While the VXI variant seems to offer a nicer balance of features, it carries a huge premium. The VXI (O) also doesn’t get enough must-have features to warrant an upgrade. But the ZXI trim, as usual, is quite well loaded. It offers a good value for money and this is our top recommendation for new Swift 2024 buyers.

The ZXI Plus gets a few extra features but most of them are good-to-have. So, you can choose to buy it if you want these features.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Maruti Swift Petrol?

The 2024 Swift offers less power (82PS) and less torque (112Nm) than before. But the Swift claims to deliver a phenomenal mileage of 25.75kmpl with the automatic and 24.80kmpl with teh manual. This is almost on par with what you get with the Tiago CNG. So, getting this kind of mileage with petrol is mind boggling.

The biggest drawback in the Swift 2024 is the 3-cylinder engine while the older one had a 4-cylinder powertrain. This takes away one of the key advantages the Swift had in its favour but now it falls in the league of the Tiago, which has a rough engine feel. We hope Maruti Suzuki tune the refinement well enough to contain the noise and vibrations of the 3-cylinder engine.
