Toyota have revealed the 4th-gen Tacoma pick-up truck for the North American market and it rivals the likes of the Ford F-150. Read on to know about the all new 2023 Toyota Tacoma pick-up.

The new Tacoma doesn’t share anything in common with the model it replaces. It looks more rugged than before and the off-road centric Trailhunter trim looks the bulkiest of the lot. At the front, the Tacoma gets a large hexagonal grille with large Toyota branding and a beefy skid plate. Other design details include 18-inch alloy wheels, an LED taillight and a flatbed with an array of customisation options.

On the inside, the Tacoma offers a large freestanding 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs on Toyota’s latest operating system. It supports wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and works seamlessly with wireless phone charging as well. It also gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that offers several customisation options and off-road data. Other highlights include a JBL sound system along with a Bluetooth-compatible portable speaker that can run for up to 6 hours when undocked.

The new Tacoma comes with 2 powertrain options, both using a 2.4L turbocharged petrol engine. The 2.4L turbocharged petrol engine produces 278PS of power and 430Nm of torque with the automatic transmission. Toyota also offer the option of a 6-speed manual transmission with auto rev matching and anti stalling, with the engine output reduced to 270PS and 420Nm. The 2nd powertrain option combines a 48PS electric motor and a 1.87kWh battery pack that takes the total power output to 326PS and 630Nm — the latter figure is double the output of the older Tacoma.

The new Tacoma shares its new TNGA-F platform with the bigger Tundra and Sequoia pick-up trucks. The same platform is also likely to underpin the next-gen Fortuner SUV and Hilux pick-up. The new TNGA-F platform uses a high-strength steel ladder frame chassis that’s said to be more rugged than before.
