Hyundai Motor India have introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership option for the Creta Electric, significantly lowering its entry price. With the new scheme, buyers can purchase the electric SUV at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs. 10.99 lakh, while paying separately for the battery through a usage-based EMI plan.

Apart from introducing BaaS, Hyundai have also updated the Creta Electric with a few equipment changes based on customer feedback.
Under the new Battery-as-a-Service scheme, customers buy the vehicle without paying the full cost of the battery upfront. Instead, the battery cost is financed separately and repaid through monthly instalments based on vehicle usage.
Hyundai say the battery EMI starts at Rs. 3.90 per kilometre, helping reduce the initial purchase cost by nearly Rs. 7 lakh compared to the standard price of the Creta Electric.
While Hyundai are yet to announce variant-wise BaaS prices, the ownership model is aimed at making electric vehicle ownership more accessible for buyers who want a lower upfront investment.
Along with the new ownership model, Hyundai have made a couple of updates to the Creta Electric. The SUV now comes equipped with an integrated side foot step, making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle while also adding to its SUV-like appearance.
Hyundai have also revised the home charging options. The HC variants of the Creta Electric will now be supplied with a 7.4kW AC wall box charger, replacing the previously offered 11kW charger. According to Hyundai, this change has been made based on customer demand for a more practical home charging solution.
The Creta Electric continues to be offered with 2 battery pack options. Variants equipped with the 42kWh battery pack offer a claimed range of 420km whereas the 51.4kWh variants offer 510km. Both versions use a single front-mounted electric motor driving the front wheels.
The long-range variant produces 171PS, while the standard-range version develops 135PS. Hyundai claims the long-range Creta Electric can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 7.9 seconds. Using a DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in around 39 minutes.
The Creta Electric offers comfort, convenience and safety features, including:
Battery-as-a-Service is quickly becoming a popular ownership model among EV manufacturers as it helps lower the initial purchase price, one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption.
With the launch of BaaS for the Creta Electric, Hyundai join a growing list of manufacturers offering similar plans in India, including MG, Citroen, Kia, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. Customers who opt for BaaS benefit from a significantly lower upfront cost while paying for battery usage over time.
The Hyundai Creta Electric rivals other C-segment electric SUVs in India, including the newly launched Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella.
