Toyota have removed the Urban Cruiser B2-segment SUV from their India website. The Urban Cruiser was based on the 1st-gen Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Toyota do not plan to replace it with a new one based on the current-gen Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

Toyota launched the Urban Cruiser in 2020. It offered a different front fascia over the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza facelift and also offered better warranty coverage. Mechanically, the Urban Cruiser and Vitara Brezza were similar, offering a 1.5L normal petrol engine with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Toyota recently launched the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which shares its powertrain and underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. While the Urban Cruiser was a result of badge engineering, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Grand Vitara were jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The strong hybrid powertrain that powers both C-segment SUVs comes from Toyota while the mild-hybrid petrol engine comes from Maruti Suzuki.

With the launch of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota may not want to redirect the interest of the customers to a new product, at least in the short run. Toyota are testing the Yaris Cross extensively on our roads for over 2 years now. It hints towards a possible India launch of the Yaris Cross or a brand-new SUV based on the underpinnings of the Yaris Cross.
