It’s no secret that the Toyota Glanza is a rebadged Baleno. However, for the 2022 Glanza, Toyota have reworked the exteriors and also made some small changes to the interiors to give it a distinctive appeal over the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. To some people, the Glanza appeals more than the Baleno thanks to its sharper front profile.

Good Set Of Standard And Feel-Good Features

The new Glanza comes with a good set of standard features. These include auto AC, tilt steering, all 4 power windows, central locking, projector headlights and rear defogger. Additionally, the new Glanza also comes with new features, such as rear AC vents, 6 airbags, 360-degree parking camera, cruise control and head-up display.

More Choice Of Variants

Earlier, Toyota offered the Glanza only in the 2 variants – G and V. However, with the 2022 Glanza, Toyota now offer a choice of 4 variants — E, S, G and V. The addition of the lower variants make the 2022 Glanza more attainable for price-conscious buyers.

The Only Other B2-segment Hatchback With CNG Option

The 2022 Glanza is the only other B2-segment hatchback with a factory-fitted CNG option. The other CNG premium hatchback is the Baleno CNG, which shares its powertrain and platform with the Glanza CNG. It offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 30.61kmpkg.

Best-In-Class Efficiency With Affordable Automatic Option

The 2022 Glanza’ new petrol engine with Maruti Suzuki’s Dualjet technology helps it offer a class-leading fuel efficiency of 23kmpl. Additionally, the new Glanza comes with an automated manual transmission (AMT) that is only Rs. 50,000 more expensive than the corresponding manual variants. It is worth mentioning that Toyota offer the Glanza AMT with 3 of its 4 variants.

Better Warranty And Service Experience

Toyota offer a 3-year/1 lakh km warranty with the Glanza against the Baleno’s 2-year/40,000km warranty. Additionally, Toyota dealerships offer a better service experience than Maruti Suzuki’s service station.

No Diesel Or Turbo Petrol Engine Available

The 2022 Toyota Glanza comes with a sole 1.2L normal petrol engine. While it is very efficient, it can not match the efficiency and driveability of a diesel engine. Additionally, it also lacks a turbo petrol engine to cater to enthusiastic drivers. Both the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz offer diesel and turbo petrol engine options.

Missing Features

The new Glanza comes with a lot of must-have and feel-good features. However, it still lacks a couple of features like rear seat armrest, tyre pressure monitoring system, electric sunroof and rain-sensing wipers.

No AMT Option With CNG

As CNG cars are mostly used in the city, an automatic option makes more sense over a manual transmission. Toyota offer the Glanza CNG only with a 5-speed manual transmission whereas the petrol variants also offer the option of a 5-speed automated manual transmission.

AMT Lacks Refinement Compared To Proper Automatics

The Glanza comes with an automated manual transmission (AMT). While it is smooth, efficient and affordable, it doesn’t match the smoothness, refinement and quick shifting capability of a proper automatic. Both the i20 and the Altroz offer dual-clutch automatic transmission whereas the Honda Jazz comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Smaller Service Network Compared To Maruti Suzuki

Toyota’s service network is smaller compared to that of Maruti Suzuki. Hence, if you reside in a Tier-3 or Tier-4 city, the Baleno is likely to provide a more hassle-free service experience than the Toyota Glanza.
