Hyundai recently launched the 2020 i20 in India. It is available in four variants: Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O), with prices ranging from Rs 6.80 lakh to Rs 11.33 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The carmaker will launch a new base variant -- Era -- of the i20 and it has registered the i20 Era with the Delhi RTO.
Era is the name commonly used by Hyundai for the base-spec variants of its hatchbacks, like Santro and Grand i10 Nios. Expected the i20 Era to launch in the coming months. The i20’s prices at launch are introductory, and Hyundai might introduce the new variant when it revises the prices in January 2021.
Compared to Magna, i20 Era is expected to miss features like wheel covers, body-coloured door handles, fog lamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs and 2-din music system.
Features that are expected to make way to the Era variant include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, central locking, power windows, manual day/night IRVM, manual AC and power steering.
Hyundai will offer the Era variant with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine only. It makes 83PS of power and 113Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Introduction of a new base-variant will make the i20 more competitive to its rival since most of its rivals undercut the i20 at its current prices. Here is price comparison:
