Maruti Suzuki has slashed the prices of several of its car models owing to reduced corporate tax rate. The Maruti Suzuki cars that receive this price slash comprise of all variants of Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift Diesel, Celerio, Baleno Diesel, Ignis, Dzire Diesel, Tour S Diesel, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross. There’s a reduction of Rs 5000 on the ex-showroom price of these cars.
The carmaker says that this price reduction will be applicable over and above the current promotional offers that the company is currently offering on its vehicle range. We expect other carmakers to follow suit, however, the reduction in price is not going to be significant.
It is unlikely that such a marginal drop in price would boost demand, or convince buyers to prepone their car buying decision. However, in order to beat the slowdown blues, Maruti Suzuki has some new product launches/updates lined up. It has announced that it will launch the S-Presso in India on 30 October. The S-Presso is a small hatchback that will be positioned between the Alto K10 and WagonR in Maruti’s range. Prices of this car are expected to start from around Rs 3.5 lakh.
The other models that are likely to launch soon are petrol-powered Vitara Brezza facelift, introduction of petrol engine on the S-Cross and Dzire facelift. All other cars will get a BS6 petrol engine in 2019 and diesel engines from all the models will be discontinued.
