The first thing that sets the Carens ambulance and police car are the reflective tapes and beacons on the outside. Both vehicles get changes that help them serve their intended purpose as an ambulance and a police patrol or interceptor vehicle. For instance, both versions of the Carens PBVs feature higher capacity batteries to power medical equipment.

Kia Carens And Ambulance Powertrain Details

Both the Carens ambulance and police vehicles come with Kia’s 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine. It produces 115PS of power at 4000rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1500rpm and 2750rpm. It comes with a sole 6-speed manual transmission whereas the regular variants also offer the option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Kia haven’t revealed their plans to launch the purpose built vehicles (PBVs) in India. However, their showcase at the auto show could generate interest among state authorities and Kia could get some inquiries based upon that. The introduction of the 3-star GNCAP-rated Carens to the emergency services will improve the safety of personnel as the existing fleet of vehicles use Eeco vans and Bolero SUVs.
