Kia Invest Rs. 2,000 Crore To Engineer India-Centric EV — Launch In 2025

Kia India have announced an investment of Rs. 2,000 crore to engineer an India-centric EV. This EV is likely to be a recreational vehicle and it will hit our shores in 2025.

Kia To Locally Produce India-Centric EVs

The first locally produced EV from the South Korean carmaker is likely to boast an MPV bodystyle that Kia like to refer to as a recreational vehicle (RV). Kia are yet to reveal any specifications or sketches of the upcoming electric vehicle. Till the time it arrives on our shores, Kia are likely to offer completely built units of electric vehicles, such as the EV6. Furthermore, we also expect to see EVs brought in via the completely knocked down (CKD) route.

Thanks to the RV bodystyle, we expect the upcoming electric model from Kia to span longer than 4 metres in length and fall in the C-segment. If that stands true, the upcoming Kia EV will rub shoulders with the recently-unveiled Maruti Suzuki EVX SUV. The EVX will measure 4300mm in length, 1800mm in width and 1600 in height. As per the claims, the EVX will offer a certified driving range of 550km on a single charge thanks to a 60kWh battery pack.

At the pavilion, Kia also showcased the upcoming KA4 family MPV and the EV9 electric concept. Kia will launch the EV9 in the first quarter of 2023 in the global markets. We do not expect Kia to launch the EV9 in India anytime soon.
