In this variant explained article, you'll find out which variant of the Jeep Compass petrol you should buy based on the price, variant-wise features and value for money. Here we compare and objectively analyse the 2022 Compass's petrol variants and their features. Then we will compare the engine specs, dimensions and mileage of the 2022 Jeep Compass with its competitors and another petrol-powered premium C-segment SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson.

The 2022 Compass petrol is available in 4 variants - Sport, Longitude, Limited and Model S. The Compass petrol’s prices start from Rs. 17.79 lakh and go up to Rs. 26.34 lakh for the Model S DCT automatic. Only the base Sport variant of the Compass petrol is available with a manual transmission. A 7-speed DCT automatic transmission is available with all variants of the Compass petrol. In the base model, the premium you have to pay for the automatic is on the higher side at Rs. 2.58 lakh.

For budget buyers, the Compass Sport petrol manual is a great option. If you want the Compass petrol with the automatic transmission, then you’re paying quite a bit more for the convenience. However, since the Sport is the starting point for the Compass, it’s worth buying. Moreover, the base variant of the Compass offers most of the must-have features. So, you won’t miss anything during your everyday use. We wish it also offered a sunroof and auto AC, at least with the automatic to make it easier for us to justify the huge price gap.

The additional features are mostly must-have, but they don’t quite justify the price premium over the Sport variant. Even this variant doesn’t offer a sunroof. At least a smaller sunroof should be available with this trim. You can skip the Compass Longitude and look for a more expensive variant for a better ownership experience and better value for money.

While this variant is also not an amazing value for money, it adds a good mix of must-have and good-to-have features, which you expect from a car of this class. It also more than justifies the price jump from Longitude to Limited. This is our top-recommended variant of the Compass petrol.

This variant is also fairly expensive over the lower variants for what it offers. Moreover, it mostly offers good-to-have features. So, from a value and usability point of view, we won’t recommend it. However, if you value some of the unique features of the Compass Model S, then you can buy it at your discretion.
Since the Jeep Compass petrol manual is only available in the base Sport variant, you don’t have a choice if you enjoy rowing through the H-pattern gear shifter. Interestingly, this variant is also rather well-priced although it has a few missing features. This is suitable for those who want the Jeep brand for the lowest price possible.
The jump to the automatic is quite steep at Rs. 2.58 lakh as the Sport automatic costs Rs. 20.37 lakh. At this price, we can’t accept the missing features. However, for Compass petrol automatic buyers, this is an option. Considering the high asking price for the Jeep Compass Sport petrol automatic, we think you’re better off buying the Sport manual and saving some cash or choosing one of the higher variants.
Speaking of higher variants, you’re better off skipping the Longitude petrol AT too and jumping straight to the LImited as it offers a much better value. The top Model S variant doesn’t add enough must-have features nor does it offers a tremendous value proposition to earn our recommendation. Buy this variant only if you find the features valuable enough.

The Jeep Compass gets a 1.4L turbo petrol engine with the option of a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This engine makes 163PS of power and 250Nm of torque, both of which are considerably better than its closest rival - the Hyundai Tucson petrol. Since it’s turbocharged, it not only delivers better torque for a wide RPM range, it also offers a slightly better mileage figure than the Tucson petrol automatic.
The Compass is smaller than the Tucson in every aspect. It’s shorter, narrower and lower with a smaller boot space and a slightly smaller fuel tank capacity too. The only area where it excels is with its 178mm ground clearance, which is 6mm better than the Tucson’s.
