What Are The Pros And Cons Of 5-Seater Mahindra XUV700 Petrol?

The pros or advantages of XUV700 petrol 5-seater are:

  • Attractive starting price of Rs. 12 lakh for the early-bird MX buyers; still good value after the Rs. 50,000 price increase

  • Reasonably loaded base MX variant

  • Big size gives it quite a road presence

  • Powerful and torquey turbo petrol engine with manual as well as an automatic transmission option

  • A long list of style-focused features like a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, dual-function LED DRLs and full-colour instrument cluster

The 5-seat Mahindra XUV700 petrol has the following shortcomings or problems:

  • Automatic transmission is quite expensive carrying a premium of up to Rs. 1.6 lakh

  • Even the top variant with 5-seats and petrol engine is missing features like a rear armrest, split rear seatback, woofer, rear parking camera, tyre pressure sensor, powered driver seat, keyless entry with push-button start

  • Sharp and edgy design may polarised opinions as it moves away from the curvy and muscular XUV500

  • AX3 variant carries a steep premium for the additional features

  • MX variant misses out on basic features like Apple Carplay, rear washer/wiper, rear defogger, rear armrest, split rear seatback and rear camera

  • ADAS features are not available with the 5-seat petrol variants

  • No 4-wheel drive option with 5-seat petrol variants

  • Long waiting periods - low production capacity because of the pandemic and high demand

What Is The Price Of Mahindra XUV700 5-Seater Petrol Variants?

AX5 is the top variant of the XUV700 5-seat model. Considering its price tag, it’s still missing a few features we expect from a car this expensive. Features like a rear parking camera, split rear seatback, rear armrest, tyre pressure sensors, auto AC and push-button start/stop. However, from a value perspective, the addition of alloy wheels, LED headlamps, curtain airbags and panoramic sunroof somewhat justify the asking price. So, if you want a reasonably loaded variant of the XUV700 5-seat, then you can consider the AX5. If these missing features are a deal-breaker for you, then you will have to consider buying one of the higher variants, which will only come with 7-seats.

Which Variant Of The 5-Seater Mahindra XUV700 Petrol Should You Buy?

In the case of Mahindra XUV700 5-seat variants with petrol engine and manual transmission, the MX variant is a good choice for buyers looking for the best value for money. It gets the large SUV road presence with a decent set of features. You can spend some more on it and accessorize it with aftermarket options. The AX3 is quite expensive and not worth buying. The AX5 petrol-manual is the next variant worth considering as it somewhat justifies the asking price because of big-ticket features like panoramic sunroof and larger alloy wheels.

The story remains the same in the case of the petrol-automatic variants of the Mahindra XUV700 5-seat model. It’s better to skip the AX3 and get the AX5 even though it is missing a few features we expect for this asking price. The jump from petrol manual to automatic is also quite high, so please keep that in mind too.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Mahindra XUV700 Petrol?

The 5-seater XUV700 has only one rival in the D-segment space - the MG Hector. The other 5-seat D-segment SUVs don’t have a petrol engine.

Against the Hector petrol, the XUV700 5-seat fares quite well. It has a bigger 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with considerably more power and torque. However, we should note that the XUV700 is likely to be quite heavy. So, we can’t expect good fuel efficiency figures from the XUV700. I guess that is the reason why Mahindra haven’t yet revealed the XUV700’s fuel efficiency figures. The MG Hector, meanwhile, has decent performance and mileage figures. In our tests, the Hector delivered a respectable 11kmpl mileage in mixed driving.
