Mahindra BE 6 Pros & Cons

Check out pros and cons about the Mahindra BE 6 that are worth highlighting for a potential buyer. Here are some of the highlights of the benefits of buying the Mahindra BE 6. We'll also list out the BE 6 drawbacks to help you make an informed buying decision.

BE 6 Advantanges
  • Dramatic Styling Is An Eyball Magnet

The BE 6 has sharp lines and a sporty design. There are spoilers on the hood and spoilers along the end of the roof. The ones on the hood help it retain a muscular, high hood personality, like that of an SUV while the hood spoilers make it (almost as) aerodynamic like a sedan. If its lines and the aerodynamic design elements don’t make it look like a mini Lambo SUV, the orange colour option sure would. We wish it had a few more loud colour options like neon, yellow, lime green to complement the design. Even without the loud shades, it manages to attract a lot of attention on the road.

Usually such out-there designs wear off in the eyes of the beholder if they have seen enough of it on the road. But, we expect it to continue attracting eyeballs 2-3 years post launch.

  • Huge Proportions Give It Great Road Presence

While it’s not as long as the XEV 9e, the BE6 is still very wide; wider than the Thar, Thar Roxx, Innova Hycross and even the Fortuner. It’s almost as wide as the Scorpio N, which gives it tremendous road presence when you see it approaching in the rear view mirror.

  • A Marvel Of Engineering

If we were to list out all of the groundbreaking tech the BE6 packs, you would call this a sponsored set of pros and cons. But, it does have so much that you should read it in our article titled: 20 Revolutionary Features Of 2025 Mahindra XEV 9e & BE 6 — From Quirky To Cutting-Edge

For a quick refresher, we can include the following features as some of the most notable for a car of this price and segment:

    • Brake-by-wire
    • Variable ratio steering for tight turning radius of just 5m
    • UV-cut & noise insulating windows
    • 16-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos and Quantum Logic Immersive sound tuning
    • Auto parking (parallel, perpendicular, slant)
    • ADAS with latest hardware and software from MobilEye EyeQ6; hardware includes 5 radars, 12 sensors, and 5 cameras
    • EyeDentity driver profile
    • Augmented reality HUD

  • Powerful And Fun-To-Drive Car

The BE 6 isn’t just a car that looks like one from a sportscar manufacturer. It also drives like one. With 380Nm of torque in all variants, rear wheel drivetrain and a 0-100kmph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds, it sure will feel fast. But that’s not all. With its variable ratio steering, low centre of gravity (from the heavy battery pack in the floor) and the fact that the battery pack acts as load bearing member of the frame, the BE6 can also handle like a Rs. 1.0 - 2.0 crore sportscar from just a few years ago.

  • More Than 500km Of Real-World Range w/ 79kWh

You’re not only getting sportscar-like performance at an affordable upfront price. Even the cost to drive it is fairly low — if you have a domestic charging option. Considering the large battery pack options (59kWh and 79kWh), you can expect to charge it only once a week if you don’t drive it like a maniac every day and your daily commute is a reasonable 40km one way. With the smaller battery pack, you can expect some 400km of range and the larger battery pack can offer 500km in one charge. Thus, making range anxiety a non-issue for almost all potential buyers.

  • A Loud Message & Genuine Threat To China

We have seen Chinese car manufacturers flood various international markets with underpriced electric cars. They haven’t openly started doing so in India yet. Unless they are willing to forget about profitability and are ready to burn cash, the pricing of the BE 6 should scare the hell out of them. The tech in this car is up there with the best in the world and the pricing is better than competitive against the Chinese manufacturers.

While Tata have been making and selling electric cars in India for a good while, they haven’t priced their cars such that the Chinese would lose sleep over them. The Creta Electric is a non-issue for the Chinese brands and the eVitara is also likely to follow in the Creta EV’s footsteps. The MG ZS has lost all hope of recovering from its slump without a major refresh. And the Atto 3 was never even trying to make a stand in India. Only the Windsor had a pricing that meant to shake up the Indian EV scene. The BE6 is causing that kind of shake up but with tech that’s more deserving of being in a car at least twice or thrice the price of the BE6.

BE 6 Disadvantanges
  • Design May Be Too Outlandish For Some Buyers

The design of the BE 6 is its strength and also its weakness. If Mahindra just want to sell the car in small numbers, then the outlandish design of the BE6 is perfect. But if they want to cross the chasm and walk among the mass market cars, then the styling of the BE6 is way out there. With a design like that, the BE 6 is unlikely to carry the appeal that would some day make it a hot seller.

  • Way Too Much New Tech Makes It A Risky Option

For the neophiliacs, the Mahindra BE 6 is like candyland. But for most buyers, being so chock full of tech that’s yet to prove its long-term reliability is too much of a risk. Should something fail and require fixes under warranty, you should have another vehicle to serve while the BE 6 is down. And that’s the best case.

In the worst case, imagine something breaking down post warranty. Now, you will not just need a backup car but also a lot of cash to fix the car. Given the high-tech nature and low volume production of the BE6, the repairs are going to cost you a lot more than most cars of this class and price range.

  • Way Too Much Torque Also Makes It Risky For Some

After highlighting the risks of having way-too-much style and way-too-much tech, let’s talk about having way-too-much torque.

380Nm of torque — correction — 380Nm of torque from an electric car at less than Rs. 20.0 lakh is a recipe for disaster if the driver is not accustomed to driving high-torque cars. If the car is in an aggressive performance mode, a little bit of extra push on the accelerator pedal for a little bit longer could mean the difference between life or death for someone. Or the loss of livelihood for life.

This kind of performance should require a different kind of driving license. Or at least some training and certification. Even if you have a lot of experience driving the Fortuner diesel, which has like 500Nm of torque, you may not be prepared to drive the BE6. 380Nm as soon as you start rolling is going to feel a lot quicker than a 500Nm torque from an engine, which peaks at 1600rpm.

  • Missing Some Features Considering The Asking Price

The BE 6 has a bunch of features we don't expect from a car at this price. But it also misses out on a few features we do expect such as:

    • Only 6-way power driver seat: It only has 6-way driver seat while the Creta electric has 8-way power driver seat
    • No power passenger seat: The front passenger gets a manual seat adjacent while the Creta Electric has an 8-way power seat for the front passenger as well.
    • No Rear Window Curtains: With so much tech and experience focused on the driver and the front passenger, the rear seat occupants will feel left out as they don’t even get window curtains

No Seat Heating Option: We understand that at this price point, we shouldn’t expect a heat pump in hte BE6. But at least the front seats could have had a heating function. It would drastically reduce the electricity consumption during winters as the car would no longer need to heat up the entire cabin just to warm up one or 2 occupants.

  • Larger, Family-Friendly XEV 9e Is Not All That Expensive

The larger, family-friendly XEV 9e has a few extra features and isn’t all that expensive — in relative terms. BE6 is about Rs. 19 lakh to Rs. 27 lakh while the 9e is Rs. 22 to Rs. 31 lakh. That’s about Rs. 3.0 lakh more for the lower variant and about Rs. 4.0 lakh more for the top variant.

  • 79kWh Battery Pack Is Limited To The Top Variant Only

Many buyers want an EV with a long range and don’t want all the risky tech that comes tagging along. The 79kWh battery pack option is currently available only with the top variant. So, you can’t buy it with the somewhat-less-techy but still fairly loaded base model. We wish it were available in at least a couple of lower variants as well if not across the board.
