Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a new small car -- S-Presso -- soon, and it is now confirmed that it will be sold via the carmaker’s Arena dealerships. Maruti Suzuki sells cars like the Alto, WagonR, Swift, Dzire and Vitara Brezza through Arena, and cars like the Ignis, Baleno, Ciaz and XL6 through Nexa, which is the more premium sales channel.
Little is known about the S-Presso till date. Spy images taken previously suggest that it would be a tall hatchback, and it is confirmed that its instrument cluster will be mounted in the center of the dashboard.
The S-Presso will likely be based on the same platform as the WagonR -- Heartect A -- and could be powered by just the 1.0-litre petrol engine that does duty on the WagonR. Like on the WagonR, expect the 1.0-litre petrol engine to be available with both manual transmission and AMT option on the S-Presso as well. Expect the powertrain to adhere to BS6 emission standards from day one.
The new small car from Maruti Suzuki is rumoured to launch in four variants, and will most likely rival the likes of the Renault Kwid. Given that it will be sold through the Arena channel, the variant line-up will follow the Arena nomenclature, i.e. Lxi, Vxi and Zxi, with some variations. Within Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio, expect it to be positioned between the Alto and WagonR. As a result, we expect its prices to range between Rs 3.7 lakh and Rs 5.4 lakh.
