India’s most loved car manufacturing company, Maruti Suzuki is getting braced up to launch the mild hybrid version of the highly successful premium hatchback Baleno. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno SHVS mild hybrid avatar was spied in the production line of the Indo-Japanese car major’s manufacturing facility. However, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno SHVS is meant only for the offshore car markets, at least initially. The Baleno SHVS will be exporting to the car markets of Europe equipped with a 1.2 liter DualJet petrol mill, while the India-spec mild hybrid model is expected to come powered by a diesel motor.
It is good to mention at this point that Maruti Suzuki is currently concentrating on the Baleno SHVS version for the global markets and not India, as in the domestic market there is immense demand for the Baleno, which is making the company struggle with timely deliveries. As the introduction of the SHVS version of the premium hatch will only add to the already huge demands, Maruti is not introducing it in this market yet. It doesn’t need to be mentioned that the Maruti Suzuki Baleno SHVS version is going to be a certain hit in India, given that the hatchback is already tremendously successful here, when it becomes more fuel efficient along with an attractive pricing it is going to be an even bigger crowd puller. Maruti Suzuki doesn’t wish to have a situation of higher waiting period for the Baleno by introducing the SHVS version in India right now, and thus, the decision to introduce it later in India.
The mild hybrid version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is going to enjoy government subsidy under the FAME policy similar to the SHVS models of the Ciaz premium sedan and Ertiga compact MPV. The SHVS is the abbreviation of Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki, which is an inexpensive mild hybrid technology that helps increasing fuel economy while lowering emissions at the same time, making it more environment friendly than its regular counterparts.
The SHVS technology helps in fuel consumption reduction with the help of an integrated starter generator that assists the engine with a motor for power, while also regenerating power. This unit helps the engine and reduces the load and thereby lowers the emissions while also enhancing the fuel economy to some extent by utilizing an auto engine start/stop system as well as a regenerative braking system.
Maruti Suzuki has tasted great success with the introduction of the SHVS version on the Ciaz sedan as well as Ertiga MPV. Both the SHVS versions of the two Maruti models are generating very good sales, while making the Maruti brand name even more popular owing to the fuel economy figure of a massive 28.09 km per liter. The Baleno diesel gets powered by the same Fiat sourced 1.3 liter DDiS diesel mill that powers the Ciaz and Ertiga that currently offers the fuel efficiency of 27.39 km per liter. Expect the Maruti Suzuki Baleno SHVS version to offer a superb fuel economy.
