Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the S-Presso on 30 September in India. It has released a sketch of the model that reveals much of its frontal appearance.
On the inside, the S-Presso is likely to offer a centrally-mounted instrument cluster with orange backlight, while a touchscreen infotainment system is also expected. Safety features like driver-side front airbag, ABS with EBD, front seatbelts with pretensioners, high speed alert system and rear parking sensors should be on offer qs standard.
The S-Presso will be primarily a Renault Kwid challenger, and it is likely to stand taller than the Renault. It may share its powertrain with the Alto K10 hatchback. Thus, it is likely to pack in a BS6 1.0-litre K10B, 3-cylinder petrol engine. In its BS4 form, this engine generates a max power output of 68PS along with 90Nm of peak torque. We do not expect Maruti Suzuki to offer the option of factory-fitted CNG from day one, but it might eventually be on offer. It is expected to be equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and there should be a 5-speed AMT option as well.
The S-Presso will be an affordable mass-market offering and will be sold across the country through the company’s Arena dealerships. The Indo-Japanese auto major has not yet opened bookings for the S-Presso, which is expected to start from around Rs 3 lakh.
