Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Zeta vs Hyundai Venue SX Turbo Petrol - Price Comparison

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Zeta petrol MT costs Rs. 9.95 lakh - Rs. 5,000 below the psychological barrier of a million rupees. The Venue SX turbo petrol with the 6-speed Auto Clutch Manual Transmission (ACMT) costs just shy of the Rs. 10 lakh rupee mark. If you don’t care about the auto-clutch manual transmission, then you can also get the Venue SX turbo with full manual and 3-pedal layout for Rs. 21,000 less. There’s little difference between the prices of the S-Cross Zeta and Venue SX turbo ACMT.

SCross Zeta vs Venue SX - Style Features Comparison

    Unique Style Features

Maruti S Cross Zeta Petrol MT vs Hyundai Venue SX Turbo IMT - Dimensions Comparison

To appreciate the dimensions of the S-Cross petrol, you have to look at it from the sides. It’s as long as the Creta and almost as tall as the Venue. Still, the stronger glass to body ratio of the Venue gives it an unfair advantage. From the front and back, it’s difficult to claim that the Venue is only 1cm taller than the S-Cross by just looking at it. The boxy body style gives it a stronger road presence even though it’s quite far behind the S-Cross in overall volume.

One major disadvantage of going with the B2 segment Venue is that these cars have pretty-much non-existent bumpers. So, even insignificant bumps end up on the metal parts and it adds to the repair bill. For the S-Cross, it’s not a problem as its bumpers allow it to absorb a shock before transmitting it to the rest of the body.

On the flip side, the S-Cross’ foot-long advantage doesn’t offer any more real-world benefits. Despite a longer body, its boot space is still the same as the Venue. Even if you position the rear seatbacks to the upright position, the SCross still only gains 25-litre of an edge over the Venue.

Even in the ground clearance department, the SCross is falling behind the Venue. The Maruti S Cross has barely enough clearance to call itself an SUV as some hatchbacks like Ignis and Datsun Go are offering 180mm or higher ground clearance.

In the comparison of the dimensions, the Venue SX and S Cross Zeta are evenly-matched.

S Cross Zeta vs Venue SX IMT (ACMT) - Engine Specs Comparison

The S-Cross’ hybrid petrol engine has one advantage over the Venue SX turbo - its fuel efficiency. And, even in that aspect, the Venue is not that far behind - lagging by only about 0.5kmpl.

The Venue SX Turbo petrol engine, on the other hand, thrashes the SCross with a significantly better power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratio. The turbo petrol engines churn our huge torque at low RPMs and for a wider rev band. This makes it extremely easy to drive in the city and swiftly overtake without downshifting or revving the engine hard.

To further make it easier to drive, the Venue SX gets the auto-clutch manual transmission. Hyundai calls it the iMT. It’s a 2-pedal system with no clutch lever in the footwell. But it has a regular H-pattern manual transmission. You just don’t need to press the clutch pedal and you can change the gears with ease. It’s a great compromise as it offers full control over gear selection like a manual but is still a lot cheaper than an automatic transmission.

This Venue SX ACMT costs Rs. 21,000 more than the turbo SX MT. You can choose either of these two options depending on your preference but our recommendation is to choose the auto-clutch manual version of the SUV.

Another advantage of the Venue SX is its lower insurance costs as it has a sub-1.0-litre engine. With the Venue SX, you could save anywhere between Rs. 5,000 - 10,000 every year depending on the insurer and cover you choose.

In the engine comparison, the Venue SX ACMT expands the lead over the S-Cross Zeta

S Cross Zeta vs Venue SX iMT - Which Car Should You Buy?

The Hyundai Venue SX offers significantly better value than the S-Cross Zeta. The Venue SX misses out on some important features like rear washer and wiper, keyless entry with push-button start/stop and rear armrest, which are available in the S-Cross Zeta. But, the Venue SX more than makes up for these with a sunroof, rear AC vents and a punchier turbo petrol engine with phenomenal torque-to-weight ratio. Not only does it offer great in-gear acceleration, but it does that without compromising on the mileage. And, it costs a bit less to insure as well.

Considering the engine performance, dimensions, price and features of the S-Cross Zeta and Hyundai Venue SX turbo ACMT, the Venue comes across as the better option for most buyers. If you want better value for money, you should buy the Venue SX Turbo petrol ACMT.
