MG E230 EV Unveil Likely At The 2023 Auto Expo

MG Motor could bring their second EV to India in 2023-23. They’re likely to unveil the E230 micro EV at the 2023 Auto Expo. The E230 is a rebadged Wuling Air EV. MG also displayed the E200 micro EV at the 2020 Auto Expo. While the E200 is a completely different electric car with a similar form, the Wuling Air EV is a new EV, recently unveiled in Indonesia.

MG Motor India are likely to showcase the India-bound E230 at the 2023 Auto Expo, and possibly launch it sometime in the 2023 - 24 financial year. The Chinese-owned British carmaker is likely to tweak the Wuling Air EV to suit Indian climate conditions. We can expect changes with the battery management system and air conditioning.

The E230 is likely to measure around 2900 metres, making it a lot shorter than even the Tata Nano. It's worth noting though that the Nano has 4 doors while the E230 is a 2-door car. The E230 could pack a 20kWh battery pack which should be good for a real-world range of 250km on a single charge according to the ARAI test cycle.

MG Motor India are likely to source the batteries for the E230 locally to keep the costs in check. We also expect MG Motor India to bring the E230 with upmarket features to justify its relatively high price, over petrol and diesel cars. MG could offer the E230 at a sub-10 lakh price point while pitching it to existing car owners as a second car exclusively for city use. MG Motor India are also working on a Rs. 10.0 - 15.0 lakh electric crossover for the Indian market.
