The 2026 Ertiga is 4395mm long, 1735mm wide and 1690mm tall. Bigger exterior dimensions give a car a stronger road presence. The Ertiga has a 2740mm long wheelbase. A long wheelbase makes the car more stable at high speeds and gives better legroom in the back seat, while a shorter wheelbase makes the car...

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a 7-seat MPV for buyers who want space, mileage and low ownership costs without stretching to larger MPVs. It is available with a 1.5L normal petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech and a CNG-manual option. The petrol engine is available with manual and automatic (TC) transmission options. The Ertiga received an important update in 2025, which made it more family-friendly. It now gets 6 airbags, 7 3-point seatbelts and 7 adjustable headrests as standard. Maruti Suzuki also improved the third-row space and added useful rear-seat features in higher variants, making the Ertiga more practical for buyers who regularly travel with more than 5 occupants. The Ertiga’s biggest strengths are its cabin space, easy drivability, high mileage and Maruti Suzuki’s wide service network. However, it misses some premium features and its CNG version comes with a big boot space compromise.
The Ertiga has a clean MPV design and does not try to look like an SUV. The updated front grille gets boomerang-shaped chrome elements, while the halogen projector headlamps and fog lamps keep the design simple and functional.
From the side, the Ertiga’s long body and large glass area clearly show its family-car focus. The 15-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles and rear spoiler add some visual appeal, but styling is not the Ertiga’s main strength.
At the rear, the tail-lamps have a sailboat-like shape and wrap around towards the number plate area. The large tailgate makes the Ertiga look practical, while the subtle chrome strip and large Suzuki logo add some premium touch.
The Ertiga offers 209L of boot space with all 3 rows up and 550L with the third row folded. In the CNG version, the factory-fitted tank cover allows some luggage placement, but usable boot space drops sharply.
The Ertiga’s cabin focuses more on space and practicality than style. The dual-tone dashboard, beige lower section and ash-grey wood trim give it a pleasant family-car feel. The plastics are hard in places, but the cabin does not feel cheap.
Storage space is useful. The Ertiga gets a large glovebox, front door pockets with 1L bottle holders, cooled cup holders, a phone storage tray, a small driver-side storage box and storage under the front centre armrest.
The driving position is confidence-inspiring, with a clear view out. The driver seat is comfortable for long journeys, and higher variants get height adjustment, tilt steering, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs and a 7-inch touchscreen with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The second row is one of the Ertiga’s strongest areas. The bench offers good under-thigh support, recline adjustment and sliding function. Three adults can fit in the second row, and the tall roof and large windows make the cabin feel airy. However, the 2nd-row armrest was removed with the 2025 update.
The third row is usable for adults over shorter distances. The seats recline and offer acceptable headroom, but access is not as easy as some rivals because the second row only slides forward. The 2025 update adds more third-row legroom and dedicated AC vents in VXI and higher variants, which makes the last row more practical than before.
The Ertiga’s 1.5L normal petrol engine produces 102PS and 139Nm. It is tuned for smooth driving and fuel efficiency rather than strong performance. The manual has a claimed mileage of 20.51kmpl, while the automatic (TC) claims 20.30kmpl.
The automatic transmission is smoother and more convenient than Maruti’s older 4-speed automatic. The 6-speed TC helps the engine stay in a more suitable RPM range. However, the automatic is expensive, with a Rs. 1.35 lakh premium over the manual.
The Ertiga is easy to drive in the city. The steering is light, visibility is good, and the 180mm ground clearance helps on rough roads and speed breakers. Ride comfort remains good even with the CNG tank added.
Performance is only adequate with a full load of passengers and luggage. The Ertiga does not get a turbo petrol or diesel engine, so highway overtakes need planning. With 6 or 7 occupants, it is better to drive calmly and maintain momentum.
The CNG version produces 99PS and 122Nm. It feels less peppy than the petrol mode, but the fuel cost advantage is strong. The CNG variants suit buyers with very high running, but they are harder to recommend for regular family touring because of the weaker performance and heavily compromised boot space.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga remains one of the most sensible 7-seat family cars in India. It offers a spacious cabin, comfortable ride, high mileage, improved third-row space and Maruti Suzuki’s strong service support.
It is not perfect. The base LXI and VXI variants are not easy to recommend, the automatic is expensive, the CNG version loses a lot of boot space, and the Ertiga still misses features like LED headlamps, 16-inch wheels and 360-degree camera. It also carries some taxi image because of its popularity among fleet buyers.
For personal buyers, the ZXI variant is our top recommendation for the petrol-manual and petrol-automatic powertrains. Among the CNG variants, the ZXI is the better pick over the VXI, but the Ertiga CNG is worth considering only if you expect to drive significantly more than 1 lakh km during the ownership.
