German luxury automaker Audi is all set to launch the next-gen RS5 Sports coupe in the Indian market on April 11, 2018. The high-performance version of the Audi A5 coupé, the RS5 Sports coupe also debuts the coupé body style of the latest-gen A5 in India as currently the A5 line-up in India includes only the Sportback and convertible models. Audi had launched the A5 Brat pack including the A5, S5 and the A5 Cabriolet in India back in October 2017 and the most powerful member of the A5 family, the RS5 Sports coupe has already landed in the country.
Under the hood, the second generation RS5 Sport will offer a new 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine that makes up to 444 Bhp of power and 600 Nm of peak torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all the wheels. Audi claims that the new RS5 can do 0-100kmph in just 3.9 seconds, that is half a second quicker than the ongoing model. The RS5 also gets Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive system tuned to offer 40:60 rear bias and an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph, and by opting for the 'RS Dynamic Package' it can be increased to 280kmph.
Talking about the design, the upcoming RS5 carries forward the new A5 family design and looks quite muscular and aggressive as compared to its predecessor. At the exterior, the coupe gets the same bonnet with prominent creases and a large hexagonal front grille flanked by sleek LED headlamps with eyebrow DRLs along with a new front bumper which mounts a larger air dams and the front grill, which is wider and flatter and gets an all-black finish with RS5 badging. Other than this, the car will offer 19-inch alloy wheels as standard while the 20-inch alloy will be available as an option. Also, the two-door coupe is 7mm lower than the S5 but will offer a seating for 5 passengers.
At the inside, the premium car will come with RS sport seats with optional honeycomb pattern in fine Nappa leather, an RS flat-bottomed multifunction sports leather steering wheel and an RS-specific display for the virtual cockpit keeping it in-line with the sporty character of the car. Other than these, the free-floating infotainment display and connected AC vents remain the same as the other modern Audi cars. The 2018 RS5 coupe also includes various lightweight elements like a carbon-fibre roof, and a weight loss of 60kgs, and an optional sports exhaust system.
However, the pricing detail are not revealed yet and is expected to be announced at the time of launch only, but we can expect the 2018 Audi RS5 coupe to be priced somewhere around Rs 1.0 Crore in the country as it is placed below the Audi RS7 that comes with the starting price tag of Rs 1.56 Crore (ex-showroom, India). When launched, the second-gen Audi RS5 will take against the likes of the BMW M4 and the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S in the country. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for launch updates of the 2018 Audi RS5.
