This year marks the 50th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz’s performance brand AMG. However, Mercedes-Benz has not been commemorating the AMG anniversary much and is busier reminding the aficionados of the G Class that the iconic SUV is bidding adieu.

The Mercedes-Benz G Class has been an absolute icon with its humongous popularity. However, 38 years of production, the G Class is finally going to be discontinued by Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz has been giving a lot of hints that this year will be the last year for the G Class and the company is intending to give the model a respectable burial. The German luxury auto major is also telling all this about the veteran SUV model, to let all the G Class fans and collectors know that this is their last chance of getting hold of the amazing model. There are definitely quite a handful of the various special and limited edition models of the G Class, which includes the designo manufaktur Edition, the G 63 AMG and G 65 AMG Exclusive Editions and the spectacular Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet convertible model.

The latest and the last limited edition model of the G Class will be the Mercedes-AMG G 65 Final Edition. With the Final Edition Mercedes is finally closing the production and of the G Class. Next year, the successor of the G Class will come.

As is mentioned in the name itself, the Mercedes-AMG G 65 Final Edition of the highly esteemed SUV will be offered in an extremely limited 65 units only. This limited and the last model of the G Class will be coming with a hefty price tag of €310,233. However, that shouldn’t be problem for the G Class lovers with deep pockets, who would be happy to spend even more to get this sole production SUV on the market at present, which comes powered by a 6 liter bi-turbocharged V12 mill. The engine propels the iconic SUV from 0-100 kmph in just 5.3 seconds. The engine transfers the generated 630 hp of power to all four wheels of the vehicle with the help of locking differentials and offers a humongous peak torque of 1000 Nm.

The Final Edition will mark itself apart from the rest of the G Class SUV models with a set of exclusive 21 inch alloy wheels with bronze finish which are classily contrasted against massive silver finished brake calipers. The model’s underbody skid plate and many other exterior elements also receives a matte bronze finish, and those which don’t, get a regal obsidian black finish.

The Mercedes-AMG G 65 Final Edition’s cabin boasts of the highest quality design nappa black leather from Mercedes, with contrasting brown stitches. This luxurious lap of a SUV is incredibly off-road capable and can handle with ease all the dreaded elements such as 80 percent slopes and 60 cm depths. The SUV has a 27° approach and departure angle and is greatly stable while driving at perpendicular angles of up to 28°.

Although the AMG-tuned G Class SUVs have unbelievable off-road powers, most of them are simply used as super luxurious sedans instead, either for the fear of ruining this great Merc model or to simply flaunt and preserve it as a great automotive asset. By the looks and the pricing of the Mercedes-AMG G 65 Final Edition, we wonder if it will ever get to taste the dust and dirt it was built to do.
