Hyundai is expected to launch the third-gen i20 in India in the 2020 festive season. The premium hatchback has been spied testing in the country a few times, and more recently, it was spotted at a Hyundai dealership.
Although the hatchback was heavily camouflaged, it looks similar to the global-spec model. Upfront, it features a large cascading grille flanked by sharply styled headlamps. The bumper is sporty and gets a triangular fog lamp housing. The new i20’s frontal appearance is much in-line with some of the other modern Hyundai cars, like the Verna and the Elantra.
From the side, the hatchback looks aggressive thanks to the sharp character lines that run across the profile, and the sloping roofline adds to the sportiness. The new i20 is seen with 16-inch alloy wheels.
Coming to the rear, it gets new wrap-around triangular tail lamps which are connected by a thin light bar. The i20’s rear has a resemblance to that of the Altroz, especially because of the blacked-out upper half of the tailgate.
On the inside, the new i20 features a single tone grey interior, unlike the dual-tone cabin seen on the current i20. It gets a freestanding touchscreen infotainment screen that measures 10.25-inch. Like the Verna and Creta, the new i20 gets a digital instrument cluster. It also features a new steering wheel similar to what we have seen on the new Creta and the Venue iMT.
Other features on offer include auto AC with rear AC vents, push-button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electric sunroof and cruise control. The new i20 is also expected to get features like 6 airbags, auto LED headlamps, auto-dimming IRVM and segment-first connected car tech.
Under the hood, the i20 is likely to borrow its engines from the Venue. The Venue gets three engine options to choose from -- a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel.
Here are the specs:
1.0-litre turbo petrol
Hyundai has not yet announced a launch date for the new i20 but we expected to happen in the coming few weeks. Prices are expected to range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 11 lakh. It will continue to rival the likes of the Honda Jazz, Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza and the Volkswagen Polo.
