Features Tata Tiago Smart CNG Offers Over Maruti Celerio VXI CNG
1. Twin CNG Cylinder Technology
One of the biggest highlights of the Tiago CNG is its twin CNG cylinder technology that helps free up more boot space for your luggage. This is achieved by using 2 smaller 30L CNG cylinders stored under the boot floor instead of a large 60L cylinder stored above the boot floor.
2. CNG-AMT Powertrain Option
Apart from the first-in-segment twin CNG cylinder technology, the Tiago CNG is also the only hatchback in its segment to offer the option of a CNG-automatic powertrain. The Tiago CNG-automatic is offered with a 5-speed AMT and is available in the same 5 variants as the Tiago CNG-manual.
3. Digital Instrument Cluster
Another major highlight of the updated Tiago is its digital instrument cluster. However, the digital instrument cluster in the base Smart variant does not offer Bluetooth connectivity for music playback and phone functions. Buyers will need to upgrade to the Pure variant to access these features.
4. ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts
The Tiago gets ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, making child-seat installation safer and more secure.
5. LED Tail Lamps
Unlike the Celerio, the Tiago offers LED tail lamps that give the hatchback a more contemporary appearance.
6. Tilt-Adjustable Steering
The Tiago allows drivers to adjust the steering wheel for a more comfortable driving position.
7. Dual-Tone Interior Theme
Tata offer a dual-tone cabin theme, helping the interior feel less utilitarian.
8. Soft-Touch Dashboard
The Tiago also gets soft-touch dashboard inserts, adding a more premium touch to the cabin.
9. Black ORVMs
The contrasting black ORVMs give the Tiago a slightly sportier look.

Unsurprisingly, the Tiago CNG makes more power and torque than the Celerio CNG thanks to its larger engine. However, the larger displacement takes its toll on the mileage of the Tiago CNG as it offers 7.96km/kg lower claimed efficiency than the Celerio with the smaller 1L engine.
V3Cars Verdict
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG focuses on maximising mileage and offers an impressive claimed figure of 34.43km/kg, making it one of the most efficient CNG cars currently on sale in India. It also provides several practical features over the Tiago Smart, including ESC, central locking, electrically adjustable ORVMs, all 4 power windows and a 60:40 split rear seat.
The Tata Tiago Smart CNG, however, counters with a significantly larger 1.2L engine that produces 19PS more power and 15Nm more torque than the Celerio. The stronger power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios should translate into better drivability, especially when driving with a full passenger load or on highways. It also offers a more modern digital instrument cluster, ISOFIX mounts and LED tail lamps.
For buyers prioritising outright fuel economy and everyday convenience features, the Celerio CNG remains a compelling choice. However, those looking for stronger performance, a more modern cabin experience and the flexibility of choosing from multiple variants will find the Tiago CNG the more attractive option.
