Hyundai Foundation Created Urban Forest In Maharashtra

Here’s what Hyundai Motor India Foundation have to say about creating one of Maharashtra’s largest urban forests:

Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has achieved a landmark milestone with the successful plantation of 1 million trees under the IONIQ Forest initiative near Talegaon, Pune. Spanning 90.5 acres and featuring 41 native tree species planted using the Miyawaki method, this initiative stands among the most impactful, single-site, time-bound afforestation efforts undertaken in the country.

The journey began with ground clearance in May 2025, followed by a plantation drive on the World Environment Day (June 5, 2025), followed by the official inauguration in September 2025 by Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Each tree is geo-tagged with a QR code, ensuring transparency and enabling real-time monitoring for better upkeep.

Speaking on the significance of this initiative, Mr. Puneet Anand, AVP & Vertical Head - Corporate Affairs, Corporate Communication & Social, HMIL, said,

“Hyundai Motor India Foundation’s IONIQ Forest project is more than an afforestation effort, it represents a vision to create a greener and more sustainable future. By combining environmental restoration with community empowerment, Hyundai is setting a benchmark for sustainable growth in India. What makes this achievement truly significant is the successful plantation of 1 million trees within a quick span of less than a year at one contiguous location, reinforcing Hyundai’s commitment to environmental stewardship, climate action and responsible growth, as it expands its footprint in Maharashtra.”

Beyond environmental impact, the initiative empowers communities by creating sustainable livelihoods for 150+ members of the native tribe, integrating ecological restoration with social inclusion. Over the next five years, the forest is projected to absorb 63,000 tons of CO₂, enhance biodiversity and strengthen climate resilience.

Once fully established, the forest will evolve into a dynamic learning space for schools and local communities, inspiring environmental awareness and nurturing a culture of sustainability among future generations.

This effort reflects HMIF’s long-term commitment to Maharashtra, backed by a ₹56 crore CSR investment across key areas such as environment, healthcare, road safety and community development.
