Toyota recently showcased the Corolla flex fuel hybrid sedan and the same will also likely to mark its presence at the 2023 Auto Expo. The most notable feature of the Toyota Corolla flex fuel hybrid is that it can run on both petrol and ethanol and offer terrific fuel efficiency thanks to its strong hybrid powertrain.

Toyota Corolla Flex Fuel Hybrid Expected Specs
Toyota showcased the Brazil-spec Corolla flex fuel hybrid sedan with left-hand drive layout. Its 1.8L strong hybrid powertrain offers a combined power and torque output of 102PS and 142Nm. The power and torque outputs for the electric motor stand at 72PS and 162Nm, respectively. The electric motor draws power from a 1.3kWh battery pack, similar to what we get in the Hyryder and Camry.
Toyota Corolla Flex Fuel Hybrid Rivals
The Toyota Corolla flex fuel hybrid is unlikely to go on sale in the Indian market in the foreseeable future. Toyota showcased it to promote the initiative of flex fuel vehicles and demonstrate their capabilities in greener mobility. While we do not expect Toyota to bring the Corolla flex fuel hybrid to India, Toyota may flex fuel hybrid powertrain in other vehicles if there is enough demand.

Toyota Flex Fuel Hybrid Launch Timeline
As we stated earlier, we do not expect Toyota to launch the Corolla flex fuel hybrid sedan in India anytime soon. If flex fuel vehicles pick up a good pace in India, Toyota may introduce flex fuel engines to their existing range of cars like the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross.
Toyota Flex Fuel Hybrid Expected Price
Generally, flex fuel engines do not carry a big premium over their petrol-only counterparts. However, as Toyota combine a strong hybrid powertrain with the flex fuel engine, they may command a hefty premium over the other alternatives in the market. It is worth mentioning that the Corolla flex fuel hybrid can run on 100% ethanol blend. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki are working on a prototype of WagonR to make it compatible with E85 (85% ethanol) concentration.
