The Aura and the Dzire are both in the 4m sedan category and are about equally long and they both have exactly 2450mm wheelbase. But the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is 5.5cm wider. 2020 Hyundai Aura vs Maruti Suzuki Dzire - Petrol Engine Spec Comparison

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Upcoming Hyundai Aura both get a 1.2-litre normal petrol engine. Both make about the same torque and exactly same power at the same point in the rev band. The Hyundai Aura gets a small advantage as it has 2Nm of extra peak torque and it comes 200rpm lower than the Dzire’s. The two cars also get a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission.

Then, it also has 1.0-litre turbo petrol from the Venue. While it makes 20PS of less power and has 1 less gear, it does make the same torque of 172Nm from 1500 to 4000rpm. So, it still has the same bottom-end and mid-range punch as the Venue. The additional option of a punchy turbo petrol engine alone gives the Aura a significant and makes it the winner.

Once again, the diesel engines in the Hyundai Aura and Maruti Suzuki Dzire have about the same displacement. They also make the same power and torque and get an equal number of gears with manual as well as AMT automatic transmission. The Aura beats the Dzire with its BS6 compliance. So, you not only can buy the Aura with a diesel engine today, but you can also buy it in April 2020. The Aura’s diesel engine also makes its 190Nm of peak torque lower in the rev range and for 500rpm. The Dzire’s torque peaks only once at 2000rpm.

2020 Hyundai Aura vs Maruti Suzuki Dzire - Feature Comparison

As of today (Dec 23, 2019), we do not have a conclusive list of features of the Aura. Since it shares a lot of components, including powertrains and platform, with the Nios hatchback, it should also get most of the features of the Nios and a few extra. We can expect the Aura and Dzire to have the following features in common:

Prices of the Hyundai Aura aren’t out yet, but we expect the 1.2-litre normal petrol with manual transmission could range from Rs. 5.5 lakh and go up to Rs. 7.6 lakh. Variants with the turbo petrol engine could cost about Rs. 80,000 extra and top out at Rs. 8.4 lakh. The diesel range with the manual transmission could be priced Rs. 1.1 lakh more than the comparable petrol variants. The automatic transmission could add Rs. 50 - 60,000 more to the ex-showroom cost.

    Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The sub-4m sedan segment is difficult to crack for all carmakers. Maruti Dzire maintains a strong lead in the segment with the Amaze in a distant second position. The Hyundai Aura will need to have an attractive price tag to put a notable dent in the Dzire’s sales.

We’re expecting the Aura to gain an upper hand with good prices for the Aura sedan. Since we don’t know the exact prices of the Aura, we can’t declare a winner in the price battle.

    Winner: None

With comparable features and dimensions, the Aura looks like a car worth considering if you’re thinking of buying the Dzire. At the same time, the Hyundai Aura has a comparable 1.2-litre petrol engine and a torquey 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The choice of a more powerful turbo petrol engine alone tips the scale in Aura’s favour. The Aura will also have a BS6 diesel engine from day 1, which further gives the Hyundai Aura an upper hand. The Dzire has a BS4 diesel engine and it won’t be available after Apr 1, 2020. The wide choice of engine options makes the Aura a worthy contender in the sub-4m sedan space. Let’s just hope Hyundai doesn’t mess this up with unreasonably high price tags.
