Renault Triber RXL vs Maruti Suzuki WagonR Zxi Comparison: Which Car To Buy?
With prices starting from a shade under Rs 5 lakh and going up to around Rs 6.5 lakh, the Renault Triber competes with many cars on the price chart, including the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. In this report, we compare the closely-priced variants of the Triber (RXL) and WagonR (Zxi) to find out which of the two cars makes a more compelling buy.
Renault Triber vs Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Price Comparison
In terms of the ex-showroom price, like we said before, the two cars are closely matched, with the Triber’s RXL variant costing only Rs 5,000 more than the top-spec WagonR Zxi.
Renault Triber vs Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Size (Dimension) Comparison
As far as the size of the two cars is concerned, the Triber is a clear winner, leading the WagonR on both length and width. Being the tallboy that it is, the WagonR stands taller than the Triber. So, while it is expected that you’d get more headroom in the WagonR for all passengers, leg space and shoulder space of all passengers is likely to be better taken care of in the Triber.
Besides the space for passengers, the Triber also has a larger cargo volume, stretching to 625 litres with seating for five passengers. The WagonR, on the other hand, offers a maximum boot capacity of 341 litres only.
Renault Triber vs Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Looks Comparison
Exterior design is a subjective and sensitive topic to discuss, and we respect everyone’s opinion on it. However, we think that the Triber is the more pleasing car to look at compared to the WagonR, from all angles.
The WagonR is a tall hatchback while the Triber is a mix of a hatchback and a utility vehicle. It does look like a sub-compact SUV/MPV from the side angle, but kudos to Renault for making it look stylish (relatively).
Renault Triber vs Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Powertrain Comparison
Both the cars in this comparison come with a petrol engine and a manual transmission. While the WagonR is the smaller car of the two, and one without the option of seven seat arrangement, it is powered by the larger and more powerful engine.
The WagonR’s 1.2-litre petrol engine is rated to deliver 83PS of maximum power, 9PS more than the Triber’s 1.0-litre engine. Both the cars are nearly matched in the fuel efficiency department. The WagonR stands a better chance compared to the Triber when it comes to peppiness in driving, given that it’s the smaller car of the two and powered by the more powerful engine. Additionally, those looking for an automatic transmission have the option to upgrade to that in the WagonR.
Renault Triber vs Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Features Comparison
Both the cars in this comparison get the most basic equipment that one expects from any car. So, safety features like dual front airbags, ABS and central locking are on offer on both the cars.
Since the base variant of none of the cars is a part of the comparison, bumpers, ORVMs and door handles of these variants are also body-coloured, and these get wheel covers too, making sure that both the cars do not require any exterior work to not look stripped.
Additionally, both the cars also get a music system, front power windows and tilt-adjustable steering, so things are pretty much in place for the driver, at least.
Given that the RXL is only the second to base variant in the Triber’s line-up, it is not as well equipped as the WagonR’s top Zxi. So the count of unique features in the Triber RXL (over WagonR Zxi) is few, and most of them, apart from projector headlamps and impact-sensing door unlock, are related to its seating only, as you can see in the table below.
The WagonR Zxi, on the other hand, gets usable equipment like keyless entry, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with steering-mounted audio controls, rear power windows, electrically-adjustable and foldable ORVMs and rear wiper and washer over the Triber.
Between the Triber RXL and WagonR Zxi, Triber has an advantage in terms of the space it can offer, or the fact that many may find it better to look at. However, it’s the WagonR that clearly delivers more value for money, whether it comes to features or powertrain. So, for most buyers, our pick will be the WagonR at this price.
