2020 Hyundai Elantra Gains 1.5-litre Diesel Engine; Loses Affordable S Variant

by Mahesh Yadav on Saturday, Apr 18 2020

Details of the Hyundai Elantra 2020 mid-size sedan’s BS6 compliant diesel version are out. The Elantra facelift is no longer available in the most affordable S variant, which cost Rs. 15.89 lakh. The SX petrol MT is the base variant, which cost Rs. 18.49 lakh. Its prices could also soon undergo a revision. In addition, there’s now a diesel engine option available. It’s the same 1.5-litre engine, which is also available in the Venue, Verna, Creta and Kia Seltos.

    2020 Hyundai Elantra Diesel Engine

The Elantra diesel will make the same 115PS of power at 4000rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1500 and 2750rpm. This engine will come with a 6-speed manual transmission in the SX variant and with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission in the SX (O) trim. It was previously available with the 1.6-litre diesel engine.

Here are the current prices of the Elantra petrol against the pre-facelift version:

    Hyundai Elantra S MT (Discontinued)

With the facelift, it had already received a price hike of up to Rs. 2.62 lakh. So, we’re expecting the petrol variants’ prices to remain intact. Meanwhile, the diesel engine variants could carry an aggressive price tag and maintain a price gap of under Rs. 1.0 lakh compared to petrol Elantra.
