What are the engine spec comparison of Mahindra XUV300 BS6 petrol vs rivals?
The XUV300 petrol’s 1.2-litre turbo engine is the torque-iest in its segment. It has 200Nm of torque between 2000 and 3500rpm. The power output stands at 110PS, which is a bit far from 120-odd horses offered by the Nexon, EcoSport and Venue turbo. That’s because it doesn’t rev as much either. The Nexon makes max power at 5500rpm, the Venue turbo delivers max power at 6000 and the EcoSport makes it at 6500rpm. Given that most of the driving happens well below these RPMs, what matters more than anything is torque, which is available in abundance in the XUV300 - and from low RPMs too.
More than that, what hurts the XUV300 in the mechanical department is the lack of an automatic transmission. A 6-speed AMT automatic, however, is available with the diesel engine.

2020 Mahindra XUV300 BS6 Petrol - W4 Variant
At Rs. 8.3 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant, the XUV300 is pricey, to begin with. But it also has enough kit on offer to justify the price tag. It gets adjustable steering modes, which is a feature normally seen in luxury cars. It allows you to make the power steering light or heavy depending on your preference. Besides the usual safety features, the W4 variant also has all-wheel disc brakes and a 4-star GNCAP safety rating. Other notable functional features include front and rear power windows, front armrest, power mirrors, tyre position indicator in MID, central locking and adjustable rear headrests.
The lack of any kind of music system makes it a tough sell, although, unlike the Nexon XE, the XUV300 W4 has a standard slot to accept an aftermarket music system. If you like the XUV300 and are on a tight budget, then you can go for the W4 variant.

2020 Mahindra XUV300 BS6 Petrol - W6 Variant
At Rs. 9.15 lakh, the W6 variant costs Rs. 85,000 more than the W4 variant. Notable additions include touchscreen infotainment with steering-mounted controls and remote central locking. For this, the W6 variant is an expensive upgrade over the W4. We’d rather suggest you get the W4 variant instead and add an aftermarket music system per your preference and save some money. The W6 variant is not recommended.

2020 Mahindra XUV300 BS6 Petrol - W8 Variant
The W8 variant costs Rs. 10.6 lakh and is Rs. 1.45 lakh more expensive than the already inflated W6 variant. It gets a bunch of features like rear armrests, keyless entry and go, cruise control, smartphone connectivity for music system, alloy wheels, projector headlamps, 2-zone automatic AC, rear defogger, washer and wiper and a sunglass holder.
This variant somewhat makes up for the price gap created by the overpriced W6 variant. Since it gets most of the features we use every day, this one gets our stamp of approval.

2020 Mahindra XUV300 BS6 Petrol - W8 (O) Variant
The W8 (O) variant costs Rs. 11.84 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s Rs. 3.54 lakh more expensive than the base variant and Rs. 1.24 lakh more expensive than W8. It gets an electric sunroof, machined alloy wheels, heated outside mirrors, auto-dimming inside mirror, front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, 5 extra airbags and 3-point seatbelt for middle rear seat passenger. You can’t put a price on safety and this variant doesn’t disappoint. It’s the only car in its segment to get knee airbag for the driver, front parking sensors and 3-point rear seatbelt for all occupants. Further, the sunroof and larger alloy wheels also help it stand out.
Although it’s on the expensive side, the W8 (O) is the most value-for-money variant in the XUV300 lineup.

2020 Mahindra XUV300 BS6 Petrol - Verdict
The W4 variant looks like an expensive one on the surface but offers sufficient features to keep a cost-conscious buyer happy. The W6 variant is the most overpriced one and we’d instead suggest you buy the W4 and accessorize it. The W8 will meet most buyers’ needs as it gets most of the functional features. However, it’s still a bit on the expensive side. Go for it if you don’t want the features of the W8 (O) or don’t want to extend your budget any more.
But if you’re looking for something special, then the W8 (O) won’t disappoint and is the most value for money option considering the incremental cost over the W4 variant. It has some segment-first and exclusive features that you can’t find in any other car under 4 meters.
