German luxury automaker Audi has revealed the Sport Performance Parts R8 Edition. The special edition of the R8 is limited to 44 units only and is priced at £1,76,560 (approximately INR 1.61 crore). To make the 'base' V10 supercar a bit more special, the manufacturer has offered a handful of go-faster bits.
The Sport Performance Parts R8 Edition has been finished in Misano Red with a bespoke aerodynamics package developed by Audi Sport, while the body add-ons are made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), reportedly developed in the wind tunnel, and include a front splitter, side skirts, aero flics on the front bumper and a racy rear wing. Other than these, Audi has also offered a carbon-fibre diffuser helping deliver 250kg of downforce at 330kmph, up 100 kg on the standard car.
However, the effects of the new package are also felt at lower speeds, for example- at a more realistic speed of 150kmph –if someone’s in parts of Europe, the CFRP adds a double downforce to 52 kg. The special edition R8 rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres measuring 245/30 at the front and 305/30 at the rear, while carbon-ceramic brake discs lurk behind for serious stopping power on the track. The tyres weigh a handy 8 kg lighter than the ones they replace in the car.
According to the statement released by Audi, “Proof that performance isn’t purely a function of power output will be delivered to dramatic effect through motorsport-proven enhancements that significantly increase downforce and further pare back weight.”
The German manufacturer has also offered a bespoke double-wishbone adjustable suspension setup to ensure keen track-day drivers can take the car's performance into their own hands. Also, Audi's decision to fit the ASPPR8E with three-way adjustable coilovers for "full adjustability on road and track" is clearly be an interesting thing for the buyers. The system will be manually adjustable too, making it more control friendly for the driver. Apart from this, Ceramic discs are standard, too, with titanium backing plates for weight reduction and new pads as well for "highly effective stopping power and even tougher fade resistance."
At the inside, the newly introduced Audi Sport Performance Parts R8 Edition gets a unique sports steering wheel to set the car apart from the 'regular' R8 V10 Plus, along with features like leather, navigation, a rear-view camera and sports bucket seats add to the premiumness of the limited edition car.
In terms of powertrain, the engine options of the special edition R8 have not been revealed yet but the standard R8 comes powered by a 610 bhp and 560 Nm producing 5.2 litre motor, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to all four wheels.
Out of the 44, only 5 units of the special edition R8 will be sold in the UK with right-hand drive system. However, there is no report regarding the Audi Sport Performance Parts R8 Edition will make it to the Indian market or not, but we can definitely hope that the four rings automaker brings the vehicle to India as well. There is a lot to more to come about this special edition car.
