South Korean automaker Hyundai has launched the 2018 Hyundai i20 Active in the country priced at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The facelifted version of the Hyundai i20 Active was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in the country in February this year and a near future launch was speculated since then. Available in both petrol and diesel variants, the prices of the newly launched Hyundai i20 Active facelift for the petrol variants start from Rs 6.99 lakh going all the way up to Rs 8.66 lakh, while the diesel version starts at Rs 8.96 lakh going up to Rs 10.01 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
Talking about the changes, the 2018 Hyundai i20 Active doesn’t offer too much to look for. The car has been launched with subtle changes with some updates. Though the overall design and styling remain the same, there are changes including a completely new front grille, revised rear bumpers, all-new tail lights and the new lid design along with the addition of a new blue and white dual tone exterior paint option as well as while front bumper wears a silver bull bar-like strip, there are silver surrounds on the front and rear fog lamps with a matte black strip at the bottom of the boot lid. The premium crossover also offers the LED DRLs on order to give it a contemporary look overall. Also, the number plate that used to be on the tailgate in the previous version has now been moved to the bumper.
Not only the exterior but the interior of the newly launched Hyundai i20 Active comes with a host of changes such as a new grayscale-themed infotainment system similar to the Hyundai i20, a dash of blue on the side AC vents, seats and gear knob, which changes according to the color of the car and the upholstery that remains similar to the one on the i20.
In terms of engines and performance, the facelifted Hyundai i20 Active doesn’t come with any changes as such. The crossover continues to come powered by the 1.2-litre Kappa engine which is capable enough for 82 bhp and 114 Nm while the 1.4-litre U2 diesel motor churns out 89 bhp and 214 Nm of peak torque. While the petrol engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission, a six-speed manual gearbox does the transmission duties on the diesel one.
What surprises here is that Hyundai has not yet introduced the transmission option either with this i20 Active facelift or the Elite i20 considering the popularity of the crossover among customers. However, there are reports that the automaker is preparing to introduce the CVT variant of the Elite i20 soon. The newly launched Hyundai i20 Active facelift lock horns with recently launched Ford Freestyle, Honda WR-V and Toyota Etios Cross. Interestingly, none of the competitors have been introduced with the CVT option yet. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates from the automobile industry.
